Anybody ever do a 'RatRod'

Anybody ever do a 'RatRod' this was featured in 'The Fisherman' but my understanding was that the blank was not correct in what Mr. Dupont supplied to the fisherman. He's unfortunately gone now but I would like to be building a boat plugging rod that could handle things similar to the 'Rat' and letting me throw plastic and wood at the whitewater.

Any thoughts.
Bill

So did you do the blank in the Fisherman or 'another' blank?

I did build a rat rod and bought the supplies from beach and bay tackle. He gave me the specs the rod cast great with a ounce/ ounce and a half. But unfortunetly it was stolen. The blank was a Lami smb84 2f. The guides were stacked up top , there were only four, 2 stainless 60mmand 40mm. Then two oxide and the tip. The secret was to put the stripping guide a good distance from the reel seat. I beleive it was something like 40 inches. It looked funny but work. I no longer have the exact measurements. Hope this helps. By the way Bob is no longer with us.

Thanks,
This is what I recall. I enjoyed the brief time I knew him, I spent some time in his shop.

Thanks

I have one of Bob Dupont's "Rat Rods". Mike's discription looks correct. This rod casts like a rocket, but you must use a smaller spinning reel. Bob told me the diameter of the spool should be the sams as the first guide. If you want, I will give you the exact measurements. I am very sorry to hear that Bob has passed on. The last I knew he had a few problems, but was OK. He was a great guy, and very helpful.

Bob Dupont is still around. I checked today. He is the creator of the "Rat Rod". I also dug out the article he put in the Fisherman Magazine many years ago. If you want I can post the measurements here.

I used to wrap for Bob when I was in college. Great guy!! Rat rods were a PITA to wrap because of the extremely limber blank.
