createx problems
 

I have a question/problem. I'm using createx pearl paint with a Badger 360 airbrush. When I paint with the createx, the finish is not smooth but has a "Scale" like pattern....almost like sandpaper finish. I have tried high pressure, low pressure, middle pressure etc and cannot figure why this happens. Anyone have any ideas?

what kind of wood? what grit did you sand to? what primer and how many coats of primer? did you scuff the primer then wipe clean?
what temp are you spraying at?

I'm using Kilz primer ( I think) and coating it 2 or 3 times. I sand it down with some 360 (I believe) sandpaper then wipe it nice and clean. I'm keeping the temp between 60 and 65 degrees but have gone as low as 50 and as high as 70. Almost seems like it's "Spitting" the paint.

Hi Bob, I have 2 of these and have had the same problem. I run 20# pressure but that isn't the problem. Try taking out the needle and cleaning it with a pencil eraser. Also take the tip out and take apart the front part that holds the "cone" a little bit of paint accumulates in there that needs to be cleaned once in a while. Also clean the front where the needle comes out of the gun. Most of the time the cleaning solves the problem. I keep an extra needle on hand because it can get a little ding on the tip which causes problems too.

Sounds too thick, reduce it a bit.

Still happens after cleaning the gun. I'm gonna try to thin out the paint. See what happens there.

flush your gun with simple green. :)

When you clean the gun, are you using brushes to clean out the inside? Had similar problems with paints before and it was due to a dirty brush. Soaked it in airbrush restorer for a couple of hours, then scrubbed it out with airbrush cleaning brushes. You would be surprized at the amount of build up you'll get in there :eek:

Bob, if thinning after cleaning doesn't work, try a new needle,as Mac said a ding will mess it up. Also you can bend the needle by dropping it.

I will tell ya all that my Badger Anthem 155 shoots and controls the createx nail paint better than the standard createx stuff. It's got a thinner texture and holds well on the prime coats. Devcon and e-tex work ok with it also. It loves the acrylic inks I have been using and cleans well with the Badger Opaque cleaner. Like the simple green idea. I can get that at the local dollar store!:D

had to clean mine out with carb cleaner and pipe cleaners then use that opaque stuff, then simple green.. On the upside I did completely overhaul my brush LOL :laughs:

Here's the airbrush cleaner recipe I use.

25% windex
25% simple green
50% water

I mix a gallon at a time. This stuff works better than all of the commercial cleaners I've tried.

BTW do you guys use cleaner between colors or just at the end of the day:huh:

Water or water mixed with some cleaner between colors works fine. Break down the brush at the end of the painting session and give it a good clean out.

Btw, to make it easier to clean between color change,i use a blast cap, Jigster put me onto a while back,with a long siphon tube and simply dip the tube in a container of warm water and spray thru.

Just so ypu guys know the tips get minute cracks inthem very easily. I have had this happen to me and cause the spitting.
