Salty...
I'm not a plug "BUFF" like a lot of guys on these sites. I don't have any plugs in my closets, they're either hanging somewhere waiting to go into a tackle/container or they're already in one....I buy what I use and use what I buy, don't get me wrong...a nice handmade plug is perrtty, but a jointed LongA has caught me just as many fish...sure the quality/construction can't be compared, but I enjoy fishing them and they're more economic for me....that being said....I'm just curious, (and there's no sarcasm in this question)...what justifies that plug as being worth $85 ? Is it the type of wood? Is it the type of finish? Again, I'm not one of these plug collectors so maybe I just don't understand......have you ever paid $85 for a plug? |
Bloo these are not lures meant to be fished first of all....
These are one of a kind hand made lures.... Each blank cost me almost $20...this was purchased several years ago for turning stock. 3x3 figured walnut is not an easy find...and generally the more figuring the more expensive it is.... Now add the 4 hours EACH I've got into these....and not at standard lure making hourly wage of .15 an hour....these puppies took alot of time...time to select each piece end to end....time to turn it by hand with real chisels and not a duplicator.....time to take a pice of wood harder that will dull a turning tool in 3 seconds flat and sand it to 800 grit smooth....time to look at it from every different angle to determine which side would look better as a side or a top...time to drill it...time to clearcoat it....time to assemble it.....time time time Bloo you have no idea what it takes to keep this shop open every month. To make $3 per lure profit. Yea we figured it out yesterday...I make less than $3.00 per lure profit...before taxes. These are custom PRESENTATION QUALITY lures....something meant to be given to someone as a gift to show on a mantlepiece or collect....not a $8.00 lure you can buy off the rack at your local shop. |
I'll try and take a picture later of why this wood is so expensive too Bloo so you can understand....You should see them in person though....the wood grain goes 7 different ways at once...hard to get a picture of these online.

You are definitely entitled to ask whatever amount you wish.Since you are sponsor on this board I doubt anyone will question your sanity. Then again ,i paid more than that for a plug before ....
This whole plug business is going insane if you ask me |
Z- easy there big fella, this is not sol. the man put in a lot of time and effort ... and put a value on it. if you think it's too much- don't buy it.

You are right ,post edited
|
Zeno keep your silly crap on Timmy's board. John doesn't want it here and I don't think any others do either.
Stop following me around and trying to make me look bad. It's called STALKING. We all know your agenda as the head Beachmaster groupie.....no need to advertise it further. First two sold....thanks much and thanks for allowing me to display them at the shows. Thomas's college education thanks you also. I will try and post pictures of the third one later. |
Those plugs are just so fine, Scott do you seal them before you sign them?
I wish I had some extra money I would own the third one, any payment plans :smash: just kidding, nice work, I caught my biggest fish so far on a salty plug check out my photo on his picture web page on his site:D |
Very nice!
Would look great on the fireplace mantle.Too bad I don't have a fireplace or a mantle.:( |
Those are some fine looking plugs. Great craftsmanship put into it.
|
Thanks guys.
The other posts deserve to be left on the old board :( |
oh damn ><! wish i'd seen this sooner would've made one hell of a birthday gift for mah dad
|
If my wife was still working and I didn't have a kid (hmmm..divorce?) I'd buy one. Those are priceless items! Something which deserves to be placed on a beautiful piece of driftwood and hung in the den! Beautiful job, Scott!!
|
Hey Bob that's not a bad idea... maybe time to go hit the rocks in front of my Parents up in Cape Ned#^^^^&....I know there's no stripers there....but bet there's some sweet driftwood from all the winter storms..I'll be up there for Easter so you know where I'm going :)

Salty - I look forward to seeing them at the show. Do not get me wrong, I am sure that they are worth ever penny. I have a few of your lures, and I am afraid to fish them, they are such fine quality.
I know I won't buy them, only because I am not a collector. Oh I collect plenty, but it is all stuff I put in the water, around rocks and hope fish beat the ever-living-crap out of .....not mantle piece collectables. I wish you the best - they are beautiful....can't wait to see one in person. -IWK |
Thats Beautiful !
Its worth 85.00 any day....I just can`t get that one by the wife with slow sales at this time
Very nice work Salty and :nailem: :nailem: :nailem: to any naysayers! |
All sold thanks guys. I'll be showing them at MSBA then off to their new owners. Thomas thanks you also.
