Sailing is very cool - great way to pick up the lasses and an awesome distiller of discipline and situational awareness as if you race - I will teach my son how to sail and race when he is older. I also think it makes a more competent boater...
That said - they suck to fish from :hihi: Awesome Tuna Pic |
SAILBOATS RULE
They suck to fish from, but I have caught big stripers trolling the race on my way back from longisland and large mahi off block. My good buddy caught a 145 lb bluefin delivering from Newpt -> St. Thomas last fall. Sailboat racing is a major rush. I can't wait til I have enough money to get a sailboat. -Zac |

Which would you choose to get from Pt. A to Pt. B
:as: :as: |
You'd be amazed what a decent fisherman can catch off the back of a sailboat.
They are actually a very good platform to troll from. Maybe not to fight or land a fish from, but the fish seem to like them. I sell a lot of trolling gear to sailors leaving Newport for winter every year, they definitely catch fish. |
Who sails, all I see are long skinny boats with 9.9's buzzing around, assuming they've got the right of way because they're a sailboat. :rtfm:
|
Yes, sail boats SUK. There slow boats with to much attitude! :af: :af:
|
I've caught plenty of nice fish off a blowboat, when that was my only ride down in Rio.
|
They call me a stinkpotter, so I call them sheet-heads !!!!! :jester:
|
They don't back up, they can't go in straight lines and they're always tipping !
But they are peaceful, quiet and very relaxing if you're not racing :chased: :chased: |

Sailboats do suck :yak:

I could argue both sides for a week on this one. Reminds me of the boat fish don't count argument. I made my living in the sailing industry for a couple of years, so I can definitely tell you the best of times and the worst of times. Yes, there are less proficient sailors out there, just like there are less proficient fishermen out there. Open your minds. Just be aware whose boat you would be willing to board........
|
Nightfighter,
How/where did you make a living in "the industry". I was in the sailboat industry for 25 yrs. We might have lost money on each boat, but we made it up in volume. :whackin: :whackin: |
megabyte,
I was captain of a number of SORC race boats from 79-81. We raced under IOR rule back then. Room, board, vehicles, plus a mate and a cook on the A class boats. Was a good life for just outta school. Then took a sales job for Ulmer Sails, carting an early Apple up and down the east coast in the back of a Volvo wagon. Should have stayed on the water.... mixing your vocation with your avocation isn't always what you expect. On some deliveries we would troll for dinner. When we did hook up, the fish didn't have a chance as we would reel them in with cross connected coffee grinders :bl: |
sailboats dont suck... its the arroganat pricks that can afford them that suck
|
What are sailboats good for?
Sail boats are good on gas but they still suck!
