Plug building get together 12/8
OK, couple of things. First the plug party is a separate event than the plug swap, just a coincidence that you need to get your plugs to Tattoo by the same day. True, you can give them to Tattoo that day along with the 5 spot and save yourself some shipping cost.
There has been more interest for this than I anticipated. My shop is 22x36 I don't see how we can comfortably work with 19 of us. I don't want to leave anyone out but there will have to be some understanding here about taking turns. some will be doing observing obviously. Some are bringing lathes and others are bringing other supplies. Can each of you chime in and let me know what you will be bringing please. I will try to get some dowell stock and canalratt mentioned he can get some cedar. I will try to get some wire also. Can some bring some fast drying paints? I will try to pour some lead inserts or maybe Saltheart can bring his melting pot so we can make our own. more later........ |
SLIP, I WILL BRING ENOUGH WOOD , SWIMMING LIPS ETC. FOR EVERYONE TO MAKE A SMALL SWIMMER IF YOU WOULD LIKE..........................J HABS
|
I'll bring the dancing girls...:D
|
Of course you know that I am bringing a couple of fresh bucktails, acquired this weekend in NH;) Does anyone know where I can purchase some acceptable thread for tying on single hooks, and jigs, that maybe close to Quincy?
|
JHABS, that would be great.
Specialist, CMS in Dartmouth/New Bedford has some. Also CapeCodTackle.com and Rod builders workshop in Kingston. |
If you can use regular rod wrapping thread, I've got about 20 different colors in A & D size that I can bring. What king of epoxy do you use??
|
1) Lathe
2) Square Blanks for about 12-14 plugs mixture of Cherry, Hard Maple, Mahogony and anything else I can dig up between now and then..... 3) A desire to learn |
Slip I will bring some wood and if you need any lead let me know.
|
Slip, I'll bring some paint and my airbrush. The paint dries pretty fast, we should be able to get everybody done without much trouble. ...mrpogie

----------- That will be great mr. pogie :) |
OK - I'll bring my threads - maybe even my HT threads http://128.241.205.103/vbulletin/ima...s/biglaugh.gif
|
I will be bringing a lathe as mentioned and I guess a couple of sawhorses and maybe a door or something to set it up on unless you have something there. I will try and bring suitable power cord also. How about a couple of plastic stacking chairs? If I can squeeze them in with the lathe then I will bring a couple of those also.
Specialist- I tie saltwater flies and use flat waxed thread which is the equivilent of dental floss. Waxed dental floss will work if you are ok with white. Other wise any fly tying shop should also have what you need in an array of colors. |
Thanks Jeff iI think Ron at the Sportsmans Den has flytying stuff. I will check there.
|
I can help with wood stock. What types would you like me to seek, or avoid? It will most likely be square stock, and what is minimum diameter you would want to work with?
Rosco |
cedar would be nice. Or birch, maybe even maple or cherry. 3/4" minimum.
|
O-Tay Buckwheat, got my shopping list.
How about hardware to finish off the plugs? What do you like to use, should we all bring some hooks and rings? I am headed to small job in Warwick area at 5AM tomorrow. Any fish around? I would take my own wheels if there were...... |
I'll have to remind Saltheart to bring molds and hooks, the melter is already in the truck. I think he's got some 2oz. smiling bills painted, also bucktials. We'll both bring vises to tie.
|
That's great Smokey, you remind him. I have some bucktails, maybe I can tie some single hook trailors if someone shows me how.
