electrical connections

It's that time of year again ,getting the boat ready for the water. Don't forget the electrical connections ,circut berakers , fuse holders , batt.switch if you have one , tilt and trim , etc. corrosion and oxidation is one of the major reasons for an electrical failure at the dock or under way out on the water.
This year I took off all connections cleaned and put dielectric grease and
retightened everything that has a current running through it so hopefully this year ther will be no failures.
Last year heading into the west end of the CC canal after loading the bait well with Scup for live lining my engine cut out, with a barge coming at us ,the tide was dumping out and the wind was on port. I drifted out of the channel and dropped anchor, to find out the connection on my ignition on the breaker backed off ,it was tight up behind the dash but I got the thing on so it started back up,needless to say we didn't fish any more that day and chalked it up to experience.
Don't take it for granted everything is tight check things out first before you head out for the first time this season.

i think that the electrical systems are taken for granted by most- like Link said, preventive maintainence , it goes a long way.

Good point Link. While you're at it, check the dates on your flares and make sure your fire ext is still charged.Won't be long now.
