1oz shy of the State record

caught this fish yesterday at Jamaica Pond. One day after it went in. Drove out to Masswildlife head quarters after an hour long fight on 4lb test to have it weighed. The current state record is 22lb 15oz, this one weighed 22lb 14oz. 38-1/2" Long. Still a nice fish and a heck of a fight.

You are the man :kewl: I was just reading the article in the paper saying they stocked the pond with these biggins that are past their prime... Great catch man :kewl:

Saltheart 04-06-2005 07:23 AM

Too bad it hadn't eaten one shiner more before biting your hook! Congrats.

kayaman 04-06-2005 07:37 AM

that reminds me of a freind that hit 4 out of 5 numbers in one of the old lottery games..... so close yet so far.... must have had quite the crowd after an hour. I lived within walking distance of there a dozen or so years ago.... people are surprised at the fish that JP produces

Sorry, yes it is a Salmon. A Broodstock Atlantic Salmon which the state uses to breed in it's hatcheries. They then take the smolt and release them into the streams to try to restore the once abundant Salmon population. After a few years they don't reproduce well so the state puts them into are Ponds and lakes so anglers can enjoy them. I can't emagine casting of the shore around the Vinyard for stripers and hooking into one of these things like they did back in the days.

Hey Roy, I was just thinkin that maybe someday we will be able to go to Cuba and fish there. Political regimes eventually change. Hopefully the US AND Cuba will one day be able to have mutual respect, trade and tourism. I know a guy from Mass Maritime that while doing some research there got to fish the shoreline form a small skiff in several areas. This guy is a good flyfisher and light tackle guy. He said that Cuba holds the greatest potential for world record Tarpon, snook and Bonefish that he has ever seen and he has fished most of the world. Fishing wise the closed society there is robbing us of one hell of a destination. Hemingway knew it, someday we should be able to experience it I hope. Flap :D

Flaptail,

There are some Florida charter captains that fish Cuba but they have a difficult time getting the guys back on the boats after they spent some time drinking in the bars and chatting up the local women. I would love to spend some time there both on and off the water.

Steve

Flap that would be great and hopefully someday that will be possible. I have only been there one time and that was when I was 6. My uncle took me fishing wih a hand line made of tread and a hook made from a safty pin. Actually it was a safty pin. We used crushed periwinkles and caught All kinds of fish, some were even 2 to 3lbs it was great.

Oh I just found out that the salmon qualifys for the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame line class World record.
