Romarine boats
 

Got my issue of On The water not long ago, and there was an ad from a RI-based company called "Romarine" boats. The boats looked decent (from what you can see in a tiny photo), and the prices were very reasonable.

Anyone have any first hand knowledge?

Should probably ask in the boating section but it is commonly used by Quohoggers in the Bay... Probably a third of the bay boats a Romarines...

We use a heavily modified 25ft RoMarine for our research vessel (URI Geosciences "r/v Gilbert"

Great boat, lots of deck space, solidly built hull...

- A bit wet, we have a small cuddy on ours and the windsheild is wet alot..
- A bit hard in the chop, she isnt graceful, but I have no doubts about her ability, just not a 'cushy' boat...
- Heavy, on our 25' we run a 200hp optimax and cruise at ~25kts dont under power them if you want speed

Had a 21 footer and loved it.

I have a 1983 20' Romarine currently powered by a 175 Yamaha, and it flies!!! The boat is a solidly built commercial strength hull that is very fishable. I purchased a new console from them last year, it was like their 2nd week or so back in business. They stopped production for a while, but the original builders son is now reviving a few different molds. For the money, a great boat. I do agree that they are wet boats, as the bows are not agressive, and the freeboard is pretty low, but they make up for that with heavy duty strakes and transoms, and you can put pretty big engines on em comfortably. I would recommend them to anyone who likes function over form, as they are not big on beads and baubles with pretty limited gel work etc.

650 bucks. The lead time wasnt too bad either, as he had it within the timeframe promised. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, Todd makes 2 really nice consoles, and they are around 200-350 bucks. I wish I had done a little more research before purchase, as I could have saved some bucks.\

Todd units can be purchased through West Marine, Boaters World, Cabela's, or directly through the company. There is a 19 Romarine in Potter Pond in SC that has the Todd console, looks good on the vessel.
