introducing fish to a pond?
 

a big man-made pond. probly a 1/2 acre 12-16' deep.
fresh last year and plenty capable of sustaining fish year round.
what would you put in there so in five years it's sprawling with life? :confused:

striped bass (freshwater types), smelts, and cusks. I heard that cusks taste good in Maine freshwater areas. Maybe I will put some shads in it, too.

id probably go with largemouth and some sort of panfish, bluegills, pumpkin seeds etc... You gotta have some sorta forage like shad as notaro said. A buddy of mine has a small pond that he put bass in, they are really skinny fish, there isnt enough food for them. These bass are bout 10 years old and might weigh 3 pounds after a good feeding.

Transporting live fish? don't get busted:faga:

Local dem folks should be able to assist you with a stocking plan.

Mike is it the same pond we disscussed before?

I have a distant relation in Vermont who has monster trout in a very similiar size pond with lots of cool fresh water running through. It is strictly a family catch and release pond. But the brookies and browns did very well.

Maybe you can talk the state into giving you one of the big cow trout or salmon that are being put out to pasture.

Theres fish farms where you can order sunfish, carp, trout, stripers and hybrids, etc. Just do a search on google, im sure they could give you all the advice you need too.

Mike is it on your property? If so I'd check with the Mass. Dept of fish and game. Not worth getting in trouble over. Then maybe Largemouth, Red perch and some form of shiner or chub.
