eels in canal
 

it seems that stuff that gets to the botom quick is what everybody likes in the canal(jigs tins) would live eels work?(they dont sink to fast).snake

Live eels work awesome in the Canal but you might want to wait a bit.It's a little to early for them now try late May-early June.Im not sure when they drop out of the rivers & head out on there migration.

i second that, eels work great in the canal. they dont get me quantity but they definatly get the quality. depending on the current i use rubber cores from 3/4 to 1 1/2 ounce to get it down a bit.

New Moon's of July August and September. West tides after dark, last three hours. A spinning rod with 30 pound braid and don't forget the ball bearing swivel. 40 pound fluoro leader at least 24 inches long, 5/0 hook of your choice. At low slack walk the dog with a semi dead eel, bring up slow and reel up the slack even slower. Do the 1000-1, 1000-2 count to ten after casting the eel. On running water let the eel drift with the tide for a while by maintaining the distance from shore. You do this by after the cast hits the water and the tension of the eel comes to your finger ( bail is open) let the line go for a few seconds until you feel the eel again and repeat several times. As the eel starts to swing in to close reel up fast, cast and repeat. Have fun.

I've never used any kind of a weight for eels in the Canal.

I've got some of the biggest bass I ever took in the Canal on the August new moon, probably with Flap standing 40-50 feet downcurrent of me ;) And, I know of an older gent, now long deceased, who took one around 55# on the September new moon.

There's some places you can drift them like that on the east tide, too.

why the west side opposed to the east side???

really? is that anything like licking them? i hear that is what Redlite does to them when we aren't looking...

no dude... :hs: if you smoke some bannanna eels, then you will get high :smokin:

I was wondering the same thing . I know certain things that people lick will get you high . but licjing just aint right , did you know if you licjing too long it will stunt your growth ?
