still sticky
So, I posted some pics of my first plugs. I am having a problem though. I painted about 7 plugs and epoxied them on two different nights. The first 4 came out mint and the other 3 (different night) are still sticky.
They have been drying for a week, so time is out of the question. I feel as though the ratio of resin and hardener was correct? Maybe not? Temperature? What should I do? Can I put another coat of epoxy on top, Or do I have to just live with it?? |
Just a guess, but perhaps the second batch of epoxy wasn't mixed well enough. You really gotta mix it up good. The fish probably won't mind, but if you want, just recoat with a light layer
By the way, the plugs are sweet. |
I been there, dun that. It, in my case, was not mixing well enough. I have seen other responses to this same question that said yes you can re-epoxy, but I sprayed mine with a clear buzz can and that worked. They were just a little tacky before I sprayed.
I have not had this problem again since I: 1. Got some graduated measuring cups from a pharmacist friend 2. Mix my epoxy until I think it is good enough and then mix it some more. |
Thanks. Yeah I have to come up with a better way of pouring in even amounts of resin and hardener. I'll make sure I mix it up really well next time. Maybe that was the problem.
bfc...whats clear buzz can? thanks motorfish |
Buzz can = spray can = rattle can
clear is clear |
always do epoxy in a warm place too... if its a cold unheated garage your asking for problems

Try using Flexcoat syringes for an accurate measurement. I've been doing that from the start w/o problems. I mix the e-tex for 3 minutes in at least 60 degree temp basement. Hope this helps. Billy D
