lead core

does anyone here use leadcore for surfcasting?? i dont mean spooling a whole reel with it, i mean using 10 feet or 20 feet to get your plug down.... Am i charting un charted waters here, or are there other folks doing this????

any thoughts?

fishaholic18 05-10-2005 10:31 PM

I don't think it would cast very good Eben. Too heavy and limp. Try it on a fly rod. LOL :hihi:

id be doing this on a abu-7000 big game.

with the right plug i bet it could be deadly. :smokin:

Eben:
You couldn't cast it. I have a TON of it if your want to try 10 or 20 feet.

Nebe 05-11-2005 10:00 AM

the thing is i dont want to cast it... i want to drift it

redcrbbr 05-11-2005 10:57 AM

your making me think!!! not a good thing. it hurts my brain

steelhead 05-11-2005 02:19 PM

Ebeb, You drifting from a boat or shore in a long deep rip, maybe backreeling?

Nebe 05-11-2005 02:39 PM

shore- fishing outflows with deep dropoffs.

ThrowingTimber 05-11-2005 02:41 PM

:vamp: Just stuff a bank sinker in the herring's mouf :vamp:

Pete F. 05-11-2005 02:48 PM

think leadcore is 13 grains a foot, 10 feet won't do much. I'd try a rubber core, it will probably windmill on the cast. But a short lob and drift it over the dropoff??

Nebe 05-11-2005 02:55 PM

hmmmmmmm :boots:

ThrowingTimber 05-11-2005 02:55 PM

Yo yo jig them heathen fish

Pete F. 05-12-2005 08:21 AM

Read this under slopehead, might be what you are trying to do, course I don't know the spot :wiggle:

Set up an egg sinker several feet above the plug. Small split shot crimped on the line to keep the egg sinker from dropping down too close to the plug. Guys around here use a set up like that for tailwater areas. Either that or use a jig.

Mmm...I'm gonna catch some crap for this but here goes.

I will at times fish a jetty/breachway with a WIRE LINE setup whereby I will slowly feed a fresh chunk or gob of clam into CURRENT to get into the feeding zone. It's just like anchoring up in a boat near a rip and doing the same thing (a technique I learned from the master - Bob Rocchetta).

The results can be quite stupid, as long as you don't overshoot the feeding zone.

you heathen :kewl: :skulz:

BasicPatrick 05-13-2005 07:32 PM

Eben,

If you are trying to get a bait down you have some options...go to a emmmm..."walleye" catalog and get a "Lindy Bottom Walker" that is over 1 ounce...the point is not to go all the way to the bottom but this set up will get you mid water if fishing say a "Breachway"

Another technique that can work is try using a bead chain drail at the connection from running line to leader...bead chainns are good as they have swivels built in and this deals with spin if any...

Now the Truth....It looks like Eben is evolving and will have a 15 weight fly Rod with 900 grain Teeny Line drifting 12+ inch Flies in certain unamed spots

Nebe 05-13-2005 10:20 PM

patrick thats a good idea.

i figured out a solution.. since i am a plug builder i am simpy going to build a bunch of swimmers that have heavy belly weights and a nice slope on the head. this will get those puppies down deep. rubbah core might work too.

Pete F. 05-14-2005 11:51 AM

how deep are you trying to go?

Nebe 05-14-2005 02:28 PM

probably around 15 feet down.

Nebe 05-14-2005 04:18 PM

gimme gimme :lasso:

rhodyflyguy 05-15-2005 01:25 PM

why not try some loded bombers or atom 40's? or, one of those yo zuri suspending crydtal minnows. the last one gets relatively deep, and does a killer sand eel impersnation.
