|

|
The Cal-Kay box is very tough.... if you would ever like to sell or trade it please let me know..... Bernie Calitri was a national striped bass champion, he also had ties to Pt Jude.............
|
Wait till AdamR sees this! Eben, don't forget to seal the Masterlure clone, that's the part he missed on the originals.
|
WOW, NICE FIND
Now you want to know what they are ? lol VB |
the Cal-Kay one really interests me- beleive it or not i was showing one of the girls that works for me the stuff and she pointed at the box and said "hey thats my house!" needless to say, i asked her to scrounge the attic.
Ya know.. I didnt see any pics of Cal-Kay plugs in the 'some plugs' thread. does that mean something :hihi: Surfsters- can you tell me anything else about Bernie Calitri ?? The point jude is absolutely mint... the creek chubs got some small cracks on the belly and the masterlure is trashed....... |
The Jude is not a jude...it's a Emmerson lure from Paterson NJ
VB |
no chit... couda fooled me.

Eben........That Flaptail { Bernie Calitri } is the correct bait for the box.......Also that Pt. Jude { Surf Slapper } is the correct bait for the box, "Very Nice Combo".........Calitri was a well known striped bass fishermen in the 1940's, as was Jerry Sylvester, Ray Tucker, etc....as far as I know Bernie endorsed Striper-Experts { early Pt. Jude } and Pt. Jude Lures as a field tester. Don't take this as gospel... But, I also believe he may have worked for Pt. Jude manufacturing and painting lures. He then left at some point and then started Cal-Kay................
|
Hell I was going by your web-page ....lol
The surf flapper has a diff tail on it ?? And looks just like a Emmerson (same colors) And the other one looks just like a B,Myer plug right down to the flaptail. You just can never tell unless you have it in your hand and check the hardware :) vb |
didnt the surf slapper have a sloped head like a pikie????
|
I don't have any ,,,so I am clueless,
Adam would know f-sure I was just going by shorelinebt web site ><> ><> ><> Stay with the PointJude combo :) VB |

Peter, you are right it does get confusing, it confuses me everyday, not that its hard to get me confused........ The Cal-Kay is bigger than a Bernie Myers..... Pt. Jude used a couple of differant hangers for their flaptails......Eben could you post a better pic. of the flaptail [ so called, Pt Jude ] I really cant see the head so well........ Before I stick my foot in my mouth..........
|
If I didn't know better it looks exactly like a pflueger ballerina/mustang,,same profile just a wee bit bigger..who came first

Well I have the same lure, exact!!!!!!!!! I put it with my Emmerson collection.
So , Maybe I am wrong. I have 2 of them! As for the Box Bernard Calitri,he was the 1945 striped bass Champion and endorsed Point Jude Baits! With his name on the box, So Tom is correct . Champion of what is the question? The Martha's Vineyard derby started a year later. It was not the r.j schaefer derby I do not think ??? That was based on local clubs. Not just one person :) So to make a long story short, Nice Find Eben ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> VB |
Eben, hate to say it but it could be either a Pt. Jude or an Emmerson & Ruhren.... I don't remember if anyone I know has one in the correct box, I'll have to ask around.....we need to find a few in boxes I guess to be certain.....
The Facts: 1] the wire in the front is tied just like a Pt. Jude, not a Ruhren 2] the flaptail is attached like some Pt. Jude baits 3] the body looks like a Ruhren 4] the paint job looks like Pt. Jude [ later model colors ], or Emmerson & Ruhren, or even SO-CO...... they all had very similar paint jobs. Well, whatever that bait is........ it sure is nice........ the other Calitri bait and box are correct.......Good Luck & Thanks For Showing Them |
Wow! Nice stuff Eben!
The Point Jude does look a lot more like an Emmerson to me. The yellow eyes, body shape and paint lead me to believe that. All of the PJ Surf Slappers I've seen have had a "cut head", like the CCBCo Pikies. Does the PJ box have any stamp or label on the end? That Calitri plug is very rare. Is the flaptail on that plug made from lead or stamped metal? |
