Thank you aquaskinz

I took a rouge wave in the chest tonight - the wave was cresting perfectly, so when it hit me it was just collapsing and it felt like someone threw a 100 pound sack of potatoes at me- I got thrown back and went under, only to have my plugbag get wedged under a rock or something- I didnt realize this and couldnt get up. As each wave came along i had to hold my breath as my plugbag was holding me down and i was totally submerged. Finally after the 5th wave i realized what was going on and scooted forward to 'unwedge' my bag from the rock. They say you can drown in under a foot of water, and believe me, its true. Thinking back on this, if I hadnt held my breath and hyperventilated like someone about to die, i probably would have :(

I say thank you aquaskinz because if I was not wearing my evoII my waders would have filled up like a waterballon.

whoa

glad you're ok Eben... sounds like to close a call....for comfort.

eelman 05-21-2005 09:59 PM

Glad t hear your ok! This is a good reminder of how dangerous our sport really is, everyone needs to pay very close attention when wading. Again glad to hear your ok!

Nebe 05-21-2005 10:01 PM

oh I forgot the most important thing-

i didnt loose one plug- now if I had my plugs in my Surfcaster bag, they would have all dumped out. gotta love that huge velcro flap.:D

Pt.JudeJoe 05-21-2005 10:06 PM

Wow Eben! Good job keeping your wits about you in a crisis . I agree with #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& this is a good wake up call at the beginning of the season for all of us.

RoyL 05-21-2005 10:31 PM

Good thing your okay. keeping your cool in moments like that can save your life......Got to love the Aquaskinz they do there job.

JohnR 05-21-2005 10:48 PM

And to think I was going to go down there...

Glad you are OK - that's the big thing.

Yes, the Skinz are awesome and will keep the water out.

So were they?

Squid kids Dad 05-21-2005 11:19 PM

Glad your OK...Thats the main thing

Rob Rockcrawler 05-22-2005 12:06 AM

Glad you are ok. Did ya do some catching along with your swimming?

Roseneath 05-22-2005 12:11 AM

Glad to hear you're okay Eben. There were some huge rollers out there tonight.

Did you tell the wife :hidin:

Striperhound 05-22-2005 06:05 AM

Good to see your ok. The best thing you did was staying calm and thinking through your situation. For this reason alone Im thinking of a wetsuit instead of waders.

afterhours 05-22-2005 06:25 AM

close call eben, glad you kept your witts and are ok.

BigFish 05-22-2005 07:58 AM

Glad you are fine Eben...as I do not have an Eben darter yet! :hihi: Seriously glad you are fine! I need to get me a Skinz top soon, also I was thinking along the same lines as Striperhound......does anyone else out there use wet suits as opposed to waders? I know alot of you New Yawkers down along Montauk do. Could you give us some insight on pros and cons, cost etc.? What do you wear on your feet? I was thinking wetsuit, neoprene booties with wading boots?

Raven 05-22-2005 08:18 AM

WE THINK ALIKE

BF AND I WAS WONDERIN THE SAME...

John the place i told you i was going was unfishable- totally weeded out- the place I got dunked is that place in gansett named after the style of house thats on the beach there... Its a great spot to fish when theres a heave on because its protected.... except for last night :hihi:

oh and no fish :(

BigFish 05-22-2005 08:22 AM

And you would know first hand there was no fish there cause' you were underwater looking for them! :hihi:

fishweewee 05-22-2005 08:26 AM

Wow. I'm glad you are okay Eben. That area is no place to mess around.

I love those Aquaskinz. They're like body condoms.

Joe 05-22-2005 08:49 AM

If you had drown I would have done a nice tribute story about you - but you would have been dead so you would miss it....
Were you wearing your lucky SRI hat when it happened?

JohnR 05-22-2005 08:53 AM

Now THAT is about as shameless a plug as they get :tooth:

Joe - how you fixed for extra-fat EVO2's ?

macojoe 05-22-2005 09:01 AM

Glad you are ok!!!

Have any of you ever thought about cutting the strap on your plug bags or what ever you carry and sew Velcro on it?? This way you could just rip it off in a situation like this.

likwid 05-22-2005 09:29 AM

Carry an external sheepsfoot blade knife (like a myerchin... preferably serrated for speed) and DON'T PANIC.

Raven 05-22-2005 10:01 AM

BigFish 05-22-2005 10:03 AM

No prob Raven....don't mean to make light of Eben getting dunked like a piece of chunk mac......just glad he is fine! :hihi:

Joe 05-22-2005 10:07 AM

John - Yes....I've got 2X & 3X LG Evo 2 in stock -
The olny one I'm out of is 1X, but Kadir said they were almost ready with some refills on the 1X - Hope they get here in time for Fathers Day...

Flaptail 05-22-2005 10:14 AM

Any good kayak top would have done the same. I got cheaper bags with velcro closures too. Glad you didn't get dead though that would have sucked besides I don't have an Eben plug yet. Until that you can't croak. :faga:
