First time fishing on boat - Boston Harbor

Hi all,

I am planning on fishing this saturday (2pm ish) for the first time from my boat. I recently joined Big Brothers of Boston Bay and my little bro wants to go fishing! So I am looking to catch some fish with minimal amount of effort (kid is 8). I doubt it matters what type of fish, as long as he hooks something ;). I wouldn;t mind fishing for stripers. Any suggestions? I have 24ft cuddy located in Boston harbor. TIA! Oh and I have basic salt water spin reels from penn. Nothing fancy. Any advice on location, bait. etc.

Hello :wavey:

It's all about the weather....If you can I would go outside from Boston light to the B-bouy Fish with a good size sabiki rig With 7 oz crip. herring on the end..Chum some....get some macks now that may be cool for the kid but now you want to drop one live mack down with a 4-5 oz egg sinker and HOLD on :wavey: Striper :wavey: ///
Now if you don't want to take your lumps outside you head inside and look for the birds ....topwater stuff light stuff around the airport down to long island the bays....

That NE wind comes right down the harbor hard to find a place to :hidin:

Thanks for the info exactly what i was looking for. Anyone else got any advise for the inner harbor areas around the airport? Maybe over by the Charlestown bridge? I see people fishing from the bridge all the time... Thank again.

Definately what S1 said, go out a distance and get into some deep water, you may not need to go as far as b-bouy, if you got a sonar watch they show up. jig for macks, your kid will have a blast.
I'm taking my nephew out this weekend also, he loves catching macks cause its plenty of actioin. Hes 10.

And yes, inside is the flats, for schoolies.

Have fun
Good Luck
