Learned my lesson hook tieing %$#@%%$$

I lost my first keeper on my favorite spot Memorial day because of the knot I used on my hook. I tried the uni knot on Gamakatsu octopus on a clam bait thinking it will hold straight dah...when I reel in the fish about 15ft from where I standin with tight lines I keep loosing the fish twice. I realized that the knot was not that tight and it keep swaying. So I replaced my knot with a snell knot it works great had a nice fight but never lost the fish. I'll never experiment on any knot on my hook again... :fishslap: :fishslap: :fishslap:

I got Sausage Fingers....can't tie a snell to save my life. I live and die by the Palomar, easy and strong.

i agree, Palomar is the knot

I'll second that! Pudgy fingers, bad eyes = nice big loop for the Palomar.

Is it tight enough to let the hook on a steady position.

The Dad Fisherman 06-01-2005 02:01 PM

It won't hold a hook as straight as a snell but I just use the hooks that have the straight eye, not the offset eye and I've never had any problems

The uni-knot snell wrapped around the shank will prevent swinging.

Thanks I found the sight that does it much simpler. http://outdoorstore.espn.com/servlet...late=knot9.cfm

Someone can have my spool of 30lb if they want it, I think its cut at about 200 yards (do the math for a 965 and you got how long the main section is)
