704 sideplate
I've noticed over time the cheezy plastic sideplate on my 704 has become warped and doesn't quite fit to tightly anymore.
There's now a gap at the bottom front and rear.To easy for debris to get in. Taping and/or siliconing is a pain in the a$$. Anybody know where a more rigid sideplate from an older 704 can be had? |
Every black 704 I ever saw had a plastic plate---don't know if they ever made them with a metal one
You'd probably have to find someone who'd be willing to part with a greenie. |
704's blacks look the same as my greenies, wonder if those side plates available from penn and if they fit.May be worth a phone call to penn.

The green plates fit if you can find one (and if you don't care about having a black and gold reel with a big green plate).
BTW--you can crack the screw tab as easily on a metal plate as a plastic one if you overtighten the plate screws ;) |
Trace the plate onto a stainless steal sheet and cut with scissors/saw.

I don't care about looks. If I can find a greenie sideplate all the much better.
Otherwise I'll just pick up several of the plastic ones to have on hand. |
I may have a spare greenie sideplate somewhere around here . let me look for it .

I was able to procure a black medal side plate from Sam's.
A good scuffing,a coat of flat black rustoleum and 3 coats of high gloss lacquer and I got a brand new side plate in less than an hour. |
