everything is SHRINKING

no not my clothes...loosen weight actually....but food is shrinking...

mini ice cream cones....just threw in an english muffin in the toaster oven

and its like half of the old ones....they've raised the prices as much as they

can...so now they start shrinking the product to increase profit margins.

it's beginning to get rediculous! have ya noticed?

capesams 06-21-2005 05:30 AM

your right...pulled out the pkg. of wheat english muffin's and went to pop one in the toster..the bottom was good size ,,but the top was only half the size of the bottom,,after it got cooked I couldn't find the top  must have fallin down in the tray with the rest of the crumb's.

Homerun04 06-21-2005 06:04 AM

Like George Costanza on Seinfeld after swimming at the beach house on Cape Cod in the cold water......major shrinkage........ :hihi: :hihi:

fishweewee 06-21-2005 07:56 AM

Sure, it could be a price increase in disguise, but it could also be in response to critics who think we all eat waaaay too much refined sugar, enriched white flour and saturated fats. Sad to say, it could be fear of obesity lawsuits that could be contributing to your smaller foodstuffs portions. :faga:

likwid 06-21-2005 08:07 AM

smaller portions mean people eat more
and therefore have to buy more
capitalism at its best
"coke no ice please" :D

Raven 06-21-2005 08:39 AM

good point FWW

but some has to do with operating costs and materials cost all of which are directly affected by rising fuel costs ...both heating \cooling and transportation. When i go into a produce section and start seeing vegetables
that i wouldn't wanna feed to hogs for escalated prices i flip out. $5.99 for a measley little 7 0unces of spinach ...pffffffffffff thats wrong...way wrong!:hs:

justplugit 06-21-2005 10:08 AM

Open a can of tuna lately? Used to feed 3 people, now your lucky to get a sandwich and a half out of it.
I gotta say though food in this country has been the biggest bargain we ever had. The costs and hard labor that go into farming ,picking, shipping, storage and selling and the selection we have still makes it a bargain. Big combines are buying out the small farmer and so goes the competition and prices.:(

Sure wish my pay went up as fast as everything else I buy. Paul

I noticed it in September when I went to stop & shop. My wife wanted me to get some ice cream for my grandfathers birthday party (he turned 89). Go to grab 2 1/2 gallons and see that they are only 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 qts depending on manufacturer. Price still the same but quite a bit smaller containers.

Raven 11-18-2008 07:42 PM

yep

and i was lookin at a bar of soap...one day... with it's concave or covex shape depending on how ya look at it... and i suddenly realized that it's shaped that way to need a bigger box thickness wize .... similar to how that bottom dippled peanut butter jar trick works....friggan hocus pocus

now ya see it ....now ya don't
nothin up my sleave ...

Can't buy a pound of coffee anymore either

EricW 04-01-2011 06:43 PM

They have done it twice to ice cream from 1/2 gal to 1.75 and now 1.5 quarts and price stays or goes up a little. Makes it a real pain if you are having a party for instance. Have to get two containers of each. Also did it to yogurt. One of the yogurts I like actually put on their website that some people couldn't finish an 8 oz cup as an excuse. Potato chips and other snacks too.

Plum Crazy 04-02-2011 03:23 PM

Just opened a can of B & M baked beans-50% more liquid than beans. I always buy B&M because of the thickness of the sauce. Back to homemade for me.

Things may not be as bad as they seem.

FOOD COST

The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas reports that in 1919 the average American had to work 158 minutes to buy a three-pound chicken; nowadays, 15 minutes gets you the bird.

U.S. consumers spend roughly 9 percent of their income on food compared with 11 percent in the United Kingdom, 17 percent in Japan, 27 percent in South Africa and 53 percent in India. (2009)

Beer is NEXT

Budweiser is shrinking there Cans real SOON....

and here is the official confirmation as to what
i was getting at...

[Quote]The “shrink ray,” as the advocacy site Consumerist.com calls it, has been applied to all sorts of products over the years. Cereal boxes, bags of chips, orange juice containers, plastic soda bottles, ice cream cartons—these and countless other goods have been carefully redesigned so that manufacturers can create the illusion consumers are getting the same amount of product, even as the packages hold less than the previous models. It’s a way for manufacturers to boost revenues without appearing — to the average consumer, at least — to raise prices.
