Lobstering partner needed?
Hi to y'all,
I had purchased my lobster permit and completed buoy-and-trap setup. I was supposed to be a lobstering partner for someone else and we arranged that plan a few months ago, but it didn't happen. I don't have a boat. I would like to use my permit this summer for recreational lobstering. I will help you with the gas fare. I can do fishing and lobstering if it is what you will be planning on that. I can get my own baits. PM me if any of you are interested. |

1 so far. i got school on monday and wed art 8 to 10 AM. i have a workout schedule at 5-7 pm 3 to 4 times a week. im not rushing to buy more pots now. moneywise. besides, its a recreational activity. i love lobsters and crabs. when do you plan to get out?
|
Joey,
It really isn't worth putting one pot in the water. The odds of catching something are slim. Most folks use at least 10 pots. |
okay, i gotta spend more money. how does a guy set up a rope as a pot stringer with two buoys?
|
I have traps and rope available for a good price if you need more
|
Joey,
IMHO you're better off setting them up as individual pots. You'll get more area covered and more than one pot can be a lot of weight to pull up when its loaded with spider crabs :) |

well, if u have a hauler machine, its not a big deal, but if not, then i would need togo individual traps. SJ, do you have complete setup traps? minus the buoys. |
Where were you planning to lobster?
|

how many traps altogether do you have?
|
Joe,
You are only allowed 10 pots max being recreational! Without you having a boat, it will be next to impossible for you to do! Like another person posted, 1 pot will be a whaste of time! If you come up 10 pots , let me know, maybe I can help you out for a fee, But to be honest, it will be cheaper for you to go to the market and buy the lobsters compared to the time and cost of doing your own pots! Not to mention the mess it makes of a boat!!! Also, be prepared to loose pots Between boaters and fishermen getting lines caught up or commercial guys or poachers cutting lines !!! I've done it in the past and still have some gear needed! |
Get 4 pots and some old telephone wire a long pole with a hook and a cooler and hit the canal at low tide, set them out and check them in a couple days at low tide. Yes you will get thieves steal your lobsters because it is just as easy for them to acess the area as you, however with no boat this would be your best option. You will get lobsters when I worked the RR bridge I used to set out 2 traps and when we had a 3 day weekend and expected family down I would bait the pots heavy and it would always come through for me.

what would i do with a cooler? leave them over night?
