seals

:jump: OK all - this is a real fish story.

I fished the ditch this AM (6/22) and was skunked just like JG and many others. I think they forgot to stock the ditch this morning. Being disappointed and tired, I decided to go to Sandy Neck and see if the boids have closed the beach. (Open to trail #4) After napping and waiting for the tide to fill, I fished Scortons Creek. The action was sort of slow and I decided to try a small sluggo on a jig head. Because I had been jigging the canal, I had a #2 Ron Ara stick and a 525 pen reel. Pretty heavy stuff for the creek.

When the jig hit bottom and I was working it along, It stopped as though I had snagged a tree branch or something solid. When relly pulling with the intention of breaking off, I noticed that the line was moving sideways. I figured that maybe there was a BIG cow in the creek and tried to get it to surface or run. With much work and tugging it started to take drag and finally surfaced enough for me to get a look at the monster.

I actually caught a SEAL!! After much work I got the devil to the bank and with the help of another fisherman, cut the leader at the jighead and let the bugger go. He was hooked in the corner of his mouth and I figure that he will rub that jig out in no-time. :yak:

*#%%$&#@! Seals!

Last year I hooked what was probably a school bass off at Race Point. I thought I had a huge cow as it took drag down the beach. I couldn't lift it or move it at all. I got evil looks from other fisherman as the "catch" wrapped line after line down the beach....after breaking about 4 of us off, it surface and was a huge bull seal.

I think they just wait around, waiting for a fishermen to hook up..then snag the easy meal......ugh! (and it's not going to get any better).

I have no idea how big the seal was, I never got my tape measure near it...but it looked like an easy target for a 30-30 :skulz:
