I hate NYC

Just got nexteled from my boss who is in DC...

SURPRISE! YOU GET TO GO TO THE NYC office tomorrow.

I hate NYC.. I never have a good trip going there... always delayed, or rerouted, or no hotels, etc. etc.....

and surprise again! possible T-storms tomorrow night..

*thrilling*

other than park slope and the russian restaraunt on 9th yeah it kinda does suck

The Dad Fisherman 06-28-2005 01:50 PM

Get up at 3 and drive.....That's what I do. by the time you get to the airport, check in your bags, board the plane, get off the plane, get your bags, get a cab and get to the office it takes about the same amount of time.

I used to do that when I had to go to our NJ office. I travel under my terms, stop when I want, listen to the tunes that I want.

I HATE the entire airport scene.

BrianS 06-28-2005 01:53 PM

If it werent for the fact that the office was in the dead center of manhatten, I would seriously consider it..

particularly due to the fact that my wife just called and said her flight home from ohio was just delayed... gonna be more of the same tomorrow.. I am so excited!

Except for the fact that all of the Acela trains have been grounded indefinitely due to structural problems on the cars

That leaves you with regular Amtrak, and they don't run well during T-storms either---antiquated signals coming out of the east side tunnels into Sunnyside, complements of the Wrong Island Railroad.

And you definitely do not want to be driving there in any kind of bad weather :humpty:

The most hassle-free way to get from Providence to NYC? Believe it or not---fly Southwest from TF Green into Islip-MacArthur, free shuttle bus to the Ronkonkoma LIRR station, and 45 minutes to midtown. Not sure what Southwest charges now, but when it was $49, you could get here cheaper and faster that way than by taking Amtrak.

The Acela ties into my last NYC trip when I actually was coming home to Boston during that last snowstorm..

I was coming from DC, we circled Boston twice, tried to land then was rerouted to LaGuardia..

Not a hotel room in the city.. Me and another guy took the cab to Penn station to catch a 3am acela... that we couldnt get on because we showed up at 11:03 and Amtrak closed at 11.

So we waited for the 6am.. (there was some adventure in the middle of finding my boss who just happened to be in NYC etc...) I got back to Penn at 5am... the 6AM acela was canceled.

There was a normal commuter rail type at 6:45 that was on so I took it... 6 excruciating hours later... I was back in Boston.. got a car home.. got to the house... It was like 20F out.. reached for my keys and realized they were on the shelf 2 feet away from me on the inside of the house..

I was not happy that day.

Yikes...I didn't know....I made that 6 hour commuter trip once....if I had a razor blade I would have opened up my wrists right then and there.....absolute HELL..

The Dad Fisherman 06-28-2005 03:03 PM

never mind

zacs 06-28-2005 04:27 PM

yeah, now that the accella is down, it sux. regular train isn't that bad, though. at least you can walk around, and use your cell, and plug the laptop in, and get something to eat [[or drink]]...

boot man 06-28-2005 06:03 PM

They have replaced the acelas with metroliners that are only about 20 minutes slower. Not as comfortable but not 6 hours either.

Crow 06-28-2005 09:41 PM

If you think its tough to get TO NYC try escaping from it! I've been trying all my life and it keeps dragging me back.

Bass Babe 06-28-2005 11:10 PM

Introduce your boss to tele-commuting. It's all the rage these days. Or console yourself with a lap dance at Lucky Chang's after work. Just be warned -- the women...well, they're not really women. :faga:

I hate NY
but Im beginning to hate the weather more

TRAPPED IN LAGUARDIA

Weather shutting EVERYTHING down

Im holding onto a fading hope that the two planes on the runway in Boston will actually leave and head here soon... 4pm flight.. delayed till 530 at least

i should just take the train home... imust be a glutton for punishment...

thank god for wireless

fishweewee 06-29-2005 04:16 PM

Well, actually, it's a little too late for you, but next time...

Drive to New Haven, CT. Park. (1.5 hour drive from Warwick, RI).

Take the Metro-North railroad from New Haven to Grand Central Terminal (2 hour express train).
