Patriots get no respect??

Huh? well how can the naysayers keep saying that when they go from 5-11 to 11-5 this season and are the AFC East champs. Congratulations guys you deserve it!

Jamboolya or however the heck you spell it.

Troy Brown IS the MAN!

Got Stripers 01-06-2002 05:51 PM

I'd say it was a nice game, but I was off in striper land, catching the first 30 of the season. It was a nice day, too bad none of you guys took me up on the offer, flat calm all day not a drop of wind and although I wouldn't call it easy fishing...30 ain't bad.

The only bad news is the damn outboard refused to go into forward, except for 2 times, but since the fish were all up in the harbor it didn't bother me. I've got to get in and get those cables adjusted properly, so I'm not bothered with that all winter. Hope next weekend is as nice, but I would like to have seen that game. I won't miss the playoffs for fishing, well I think I won't anyway, I'm an addict and we don't have set rules :).

Go Pats

TheSpecialist 01-06-2002 06:50 PM

They played well , but they took some sloppy penalties. Another team and it could have cost them the game to have 2 touchdowns called back on panalties. They are awsome this year though. Troy Brown got robbed in the Pro Bowl voting.

Clamstrous, I was reading a guy that has the 4stroke Suzuki on his boat. It's been broke & in the shop for months while he makes payments awaiting for Suzuki distribution to get parts.... It's not due to be fixed for a while still...

JUMBALAYA - and the Jets actually came through too. Whereas I appreciate their help - they still suck!!!!!!

TheSpecialist 01-06-2002 10:20 PM

If the Pats make it to the Super Bowl, I believe they will be the first team in the history of the NFL to play 3 super bowls in a row in the same city. Bring on the crawdads. :p

Patriots??? Bah Humbag!!! My beloved Giants have to sit at home this year. The Jets have made the playoffs tho. Well, all AFC roads pass thru Pittsburg this post season. :behead:

Roccus 01-07-2002 09:18 PM

Patriots?

Slip,
Watched that game & what impressed me a lot is how physical a team they've become...I love the scheme they've got for their defensive backs...almost looks to me like they leave the middle open, dare QBs to throw to wide receivers cutting through there and then blast!them when they catch it...like that hit Terrell Buckley laid on that guy across from left to right...I've noticed that by the 4th quarter opposing receivers don't seem all that enthused about going across the middle anymore...whatever possessed Pete Carroll to make Tebucky Jones chase after super fast wide receivers when he could have played him at safety, his natural position, and had Milloy & Jones back there as safeties coming up to blast guys...
Remember how the really physical teams used to pound on them? Like when they went to the Super Bowl and Ditka's Bears wiped up the field with them...? No more...now they're dishing it out. Is there any other team around more physical than the Pats? I can't think of any...damn, they're fun to watch... :smash:

GOTTA LUV EM, Lets just hope MURPHY and HIS LAW doesn't come back.If ya know what I mean:smash:

ragfly 01-09-2002 12:30 PM

The best thing that happened was Drew Bledsoe getting hurt. I never liked that guy.... Maybe the Pats could trade him for a good water boy or better yet some draft picks!:laughs:

Fisherwoman 01-09-2002 06:57 PM

All I can say is Boo Hoo Drew SUCKS!!!!

GO PITTSBURG!!!!!!!!! Bring on the Bus Baby!!! YEEEEE HAAAAA

thewaterfordstriper 01-09-2002 08:51 PM

another week without watching the patriots play. who would have thunk it? if i would have to attribute to their offensive and defensive line play as well as the emergence of a viable running attack. i really believe though if bledsoe was quartbacking this offense the way it is being run now with all the slants, screens and dump-offs he would be successful. so lets see baltimore beats miami and then beats pittsburgh round 2 and patriots beat the raiders. patriots / ravens in foxboro for the afc championship game. hey why not?

JohnR 01-10-2002 08:44 AM

Waterford - I agree.

Several things happened here, even though Bellichek says things haven't changed in the game plan, they have. There are many more quick dumps to the backs and slants now called with Brady then there was with Drew. The offensive line isn't protecting Brady any better than it was Bledsoe, the sacks/ pass attempts is actually higher now than the last 18 games for Drew and the sacks/ yards passing is now higher too. The O line is improved in that it's offering a much better setup for the running game than it was before and Smith is doing a pretty good job running the ball - the best here since Curtis ( I have a nice autographed NFL football from his rookie year ;) ). Also, many more plays are put in to create mismatches between reciever/defender or otherwise place a receiver in an advantageous position to catch the ball. This means that just as often as not, he has 1 predetermined receiver to choose from and if that rec is not open, he dumps off to an outlet. He is not needing to cycle through recievers to find the best play. This also allows him to take less steps & get rid of the ball quicker than Drew did. Neither can be confused with being "mobile". If Drew could ever sell a fake, maybe some of these trick plays they never used would work for him too.

Oh yeh, there is the whole thing about the team playing drastically better on both sides of the ball...

Drew has a better passing game (at least ability) and would have benefited from some of the breaks Brady has had this year. What has Brady done? Won a couple games but he has not done the big choke either (well, 2 or 3 game chokes were close - anyone remember the Denver game). But he has overall not hurt the Pats and that is his biggest credit. With the amount of experience and time in the league that Drew has, he shouldn't be making a lot of the stupid mistakes he has made.

In the long run, I think it would be a mistake to keep Brady over Drew. Drew is the better QB IMO. OTH, the Pats can get more for Drew in terms of a quality draft pick and salary reductions than they would get for Brady. So we know what will happen.

FW - shushhhh

Arby - Jets, Jets, Jets!!! I liked it when the came thru for us!!! Now they'll lose in Oakland and Ole Foxboro will hold a game in the cold & snot for the fair weather boys of Oakland a week from Saturday. The Jets will be golfin' Golf!Golf!Golf! ....

 :smash: :laughs: :hihi::humpty:  :laughs:

milo 01-10-2002 05:53 PM

HEY !!that looks like a tailgate party John!DREW has the arm but he's got no eyes and legs-- cant look for # 2 receiver and should take ballet lessons.HEY dont laugh,it works.I do like and always did like DREW but ya gotta have some mobility. And P.S. at his size he should be battling with the bigger guys and throwin around the liitle fellas chasin him.......just my .03 cents:smash:
