Hybrid Pick-Up Truck

Okay.....this kills many birds with (1) stone....tired of high gasoline prices? Tired of the war on terror as a result of gasoline? Want to help stop global warming - possibly? Wanna take adsvantage of GM's recent pricing program of employee-based pricing?

And best of all.....it's a PICK-UP TRUCK....or an SUV...!!

Coming to a GM dealer near you soon.

Deosn't seem like much of a gain to me. 1 MPG! and how much extra will be the intital cost? Probably enough that you would have to drive the thing 500,000 miles to get your money back!

It's a pretty ineffective upgrade now. Hopefully some of the stuff GM has in its labs will come out sooner as opposed to later. Now, if they ean two 4 cylinder engines... :hihi:

I looked at hybrid cars a bit a ago...For the most part they still don't provide much of an advantage. The extra costs largely offsets reduced fuel costs, and the process to generate the fuel still consumes fossil fuel.

Yeah, but like any process, it's a start...give it 5 more years and I bet the technology will be where it needs to be to make a serious impact.

Some of the hybrids these days can gather "free" engergy thru tasks like regenerative breaking, using the charger to load the wheels to stop but at the same time turning the generator to top off the batterys. This is one reason that some of the hybrids have the same city as highway MPG, as they brake more in the city they are actually recharging more plus shutting the engine off at stops ...

I have been waiting for a real good hybrid to come along to pull the boat and go surf fishing until I realized that one good cut of the beach and you go through a trough of saltwater and submerge your batteries and short out / blow up the whole damn thing.... Yep, won't be good for surfcasters... Until they get one that runs off saltwater :hee: (then everyone'll want a beach pass :smash: )

Don't forget about the US Federal tax credit for buying a hybrid-something like $1,500 I think. That offsets a big chunk of the added cost right away.
