Curious About The Bite!

Not seeing alot of threads/posts in regards to the fishing being awesome.....this forum reads like January! Who is catching? I know the boat guys are hammering off the Race......saw fish breaking all day yesterday along the drop off and the boats were feasting on large bass! :bc: This season and last are enough to drive a man to switch from surf to boat! The amount of time I have spent fishing this season and I could surpass my combined catch with just one great outing! I might just hang it up until Fall! Aren't any of you guys concerned about the way the fishing has turned the past couple seasons?

Same here BF...been hitting my spots and trying some new ones....finding fish, just no large....keeper total is WAY lower than last year, and that was lower than the year before....not sure whats up. I'd love to hook up and fish sometime...let me know if your interested. Jay

It's the SEAL conspiracy..... They seem to know to stay in close to shore as a fisherman may help them with lunch. If they are out to far they may become lunch. Not that that would be a bad thing. :nailem:

Larry,

You must have faith my son... unfortunately this frustration, as you know, is part of the plight of being a surfcaster. For me, these two months force me to concentrate on just a few spots where I can reach deep water, one of them is the Canal, the others well... :faga:. We'll all pull through and be reaping the benefits of the fall run before we know it. :D

Went to Rp this AM with my brother, Jim and received nary a tap. The Jig-it guys in the boats were hammering and I mean HAMMERING the bass. We got to watch. At dead low I could nearly cast to the boats, but nuttin'. Spoke to LIfishinVT, he said at dawn you have a 15 minute window, if you miss it( Ya we did) then you miss it. He didn't. He had a nice fish for his diligence. Tomorrow.... :poke:

BigFish 07-13-2005 03:19 PM

Ahhhh Backbeach Jake! My brother from another Mother.......were the fish splashing on top like yesterday? They were on top for at least 4 hours yesterday......frustrating! Ja drive over any plovers? :ss:

BigFish 07-13-2005 03:22 PM

Did I mention the pods of sand eels that were swimming by us in the wash???? Yet no fish following or feeding?

BigBo 07-13-2005 03:24 PM

BigFish Larry Jointed Swimmer plugs catch fish!!!!!!!!!!! :hee: Got out of work at 6:00 A.M., hitched the boat and hit an undisclosed spot here on the MA South Shore (no not that spot Larry). Upon arrival at the first spot, I threw a chunk, the tied on a BigFish jointed swimmer and immediately laid into a 37" Bass. We took several more from dinks up to that 37" (nothing larger) until the bite shut down about an hour and a half later. We managed a few more small fish at a few other spots until calling it a day around 1:00.
I hope to have a pic of the fish with your plug hanging out of it's mouth for you Larry. Not my digi cam though. He say's he'll send it to me though. Thanks for that sweet piece of jointed wood Larry.
The only other plug I was hitting with was PNG's (Chris) pearl yellow Danny. Man that thing has a sexy swagger to it when it swims. :humpty: Props to PNG on that plug as well.
Overall, it's been a bit dismal for me this year between work and family time and trying to juggle fishing time. Nothing but schoolies from shore this year.

BigFish 07-13-2005 03:32 PM

BigBo...thanks for putting a smile on my face. Glad you did well! Can't wait to see the pic! Is that 37 incher in the freezer?

Backbeach Jake 07-13-2005 03:35 PM

:claps: If you can't be there, your plugs make a great proxy! :claps:

BigBo 07-13-2005 03:37 PM

1/2 in the freezer and 1/2 going on the grill tonight. :wid: :buds:

BigFish 07-13-2005 03:40 PM

I feel good for that Bob...thanks again! You got that right Fred...its a great feeling. Bob is a great guy and I know he deserved a good day! I am hungry now! :laughs:

reelecstasy 07-13-2005 03:40 PM

 nice

Nebe 07-13-2005 03:47 PM

bigfish just by reading your post i can tell you what you are doing wrong..

BigFish 07-13-2005 03:49 PM

Do tell! :laughs:

Flaptail 07-13-2005 03:54 PM

:rude: Well I'll tell you Larry, if you get a copy of Frank Woolner's "Modern Saltwater Sportfishing", you will see a section of a chapter on tin boats in the surf and how 14 footers are perfect for this. Well since I have a boat ( 14 feet) in my possesion and it's ready to go, I will renew an old tradition this coming weekend when me and LaPorte push off from Hatches after trailering her out on the sand track and see how long those bass can withstand a juicy fresh sand eel three wayed along the bottom.

If I must go offshore I will. Arnold Laine, Woolner, Whitney and Ralph Gray did it all the time. If they did it so can I. Better than sitting on shore moaning and whining! :hihi: :wavey: :laughs:

Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Nebe 07-13-2005 03:56 PM

heres a hint- you could "see" fish breaking and you could "see" boats

BigBo 07-13-2005 03:56 PM

He ain't making plugs wrong, that's for sure :tm: I was just telling Larry in a PM that the 37" fish slammed that swimmer on the second cast of the day. :rotf2:

BigFish 07-13-2005 04:01 PM

Eben...I knew you were going there. I fish mucho at night and the return has been the same. Maybe you missed the part where a bunch of us fished all night Saturday night and not one of us had a bump? That has been the story around these parts. Flap....if I had a boat I would be in the rip at the Race! :hihi:

Nebe 07-13-2005 04:16 PM

Actually what i was getting at is that I can tell you are not using my danny. :hihi: :nailem:

Christian 07-13-2005 04:23 PM

ive been having a hard time finding fish the last week and a half about. but im pretty sure i know where they will be the next few days, looking back at the last moon, wind, weather, in the log ive been keeping, i should get some fish the next few days.

jigged for about 3 hours last night, trying new spots for nada. its time to go back to areas that were working.

Slipknot 07-13-2005 06:12 PM

and you could catch sunfish all day :nailem:

Rappin Mikey 07-13-2005 06:35 PM

Buy a kayak. Cheaper an mo fun! Best of bost worlds for me so far. Can catch em from the surf when I want, can catch em like a troll when I want.

UserRemoved1 07-13-2005 06:43 PM

I fished 12 hours today. My third time out this year.

Upper B bay loaded with fish with the usual early am bite.

EVERY cove in the Elizabeths we picked 1-2 nice fish out of all morning.

Middle Ground was on fire. 20 lb class fish mixed in with smaller chowing sandeels. Olive White and yellow/white worked pretty decent. Still lotsa looks and turn-offs. Never would have picked there to be fish there but wow just like May.

tynan19 07-13-2005 06:52 PM

Larry maybe try chunkin :hihi:

I have been getting into a lot of fish around 8-10lbs nothing huge but plenty of them. I have always tried pluggin first but nothing. As soon as I put on the eels it is a fish almost every drift. What is more important not catching on plugs or trying something different and catching. I know you love your plugs and they are great :claps: but sometimes you need to acknowledge that you might have to try other techniques.

afterhours 07-13-2005 07:18 PM

larry- i know of a guy with a boat who owes you a fishing trip :uhuh:

BigFish 07-13-2005 07:21 PM

:hihi: I do chunk on occasion Tynan....you gotta do what you gotta do. I had some mack chunks out at the Race yesterday! :hidin:

Raider Ronnie 07-13-2005 07:29 PM
