Is "walking the dog" with these any good at night? I assume that is what the black one is for.

Yup - works well at night with a walk-the-dog action.
You can do a straight, slow retrieve also.
A stop and go action works well to.
And variations/combonations of all the above - its a very versatile day or night lure.
