Charley Soares writes a decent story on Cuttyhunk in this weeks Fisherman
Highly recommended read ...esp. if your thinking of making the trip someday.
IMO, everyone who fishes for bass either from a boat or in the suds must have this place on the must-go-to list. It is among the best and unique from every place I've ever fished. |
Hey Sandman - how was your holidays?
Yep - just put that down - still grinning from ear to ear :hihi: |
Only thing about the story is there were two phones on the island one at Charlies and one at the top of the hill near where the store used to be. As kids if we were not fishing we would have fun with the off islanders. The phone had a metal floor and a crank handel you would have to turn like hell and it would send a charge over to Falmouth to let them know someone wanted to make a call. Well if you took the plastic cover off the metal crank handel and you put water on the floor guess what you got!! Thats right lots of laughs.

Charlie Soares is the man!!!
I'll never forget seeing his slide show at the MSBA monthly meeting.
This guy is so hard core that he actually saves his lobster carcasses from dinner and freezes them in a ziplock bag - WITH HIS PLUGS!! That way his plugs smell like striper food. I haven't read that article yet but I certainly will. |
Flatts have you seen any of Mike Laptews vidio work? He was at the East Bay Show last night with parts of his new vidio coming out this spring it is a MUST see!!!!

John,
Holidays...mine were good. Hope yours were too. Too many people at my house had me in the serious "honey-do" mode for few weeks. Kept hearing/reading about Dec bass in the Thames....never made it though. Fishing stuff is all stored. Ski gear is now on the roof instead of rods. May have to leave the Ocean state this year  Trying to stay but it is gonna be tough. I judge everything by how long it takes to get the BI ferry. At the moment, I can be there in 20 minutes. If I have to move....it could be 2.5 hours. (NH). Then again there is a remote possibility of a permanent move to CT or even Nantucket. In the latter case, I would re-consider my desired distance to the BI ferry and fish in my back yard forever. I wonder if I can get a broadband connection on Nantucket? Too early to say exactly what is going to happen. No matter what I will be fishing though, that's a given. It just might be a little less often. |
Good read thats for sure ! Cutty is high on my list of must fish areas . So Im thinking an island year ! Cutty , BI , MV maybe Plum too . so Im going to start getting some info together and see If I cant get to them all this season .

Chris maybe we could hook up and go over to Cuttyhunk for a trip. I will be looking for someone to help me net the big ones.

You can count on me being there IN Rock tober
I had a great time there last year. I was very impressed. I had one of my best nights there. I lost my biggest fish there, caught my biggest fish there. I am ready for that place, I will be making a few tackle adjustments. Anybody who can surfin a 40# plus fish there surfcasting gets my handshake thats all I know.
Funny thing when a bunch of us went over last year, nobody caught a fish on an eel. I thought that was strange. JohnS |
:smash: John were you the guy with the TUB of EELS last season?
I flyfished it the first morning there, on the west end. 'GOOD LUCK GOOD FISHIN" |
