Skin Mount

Never thought I'd be asking this question, but can anyone recommend a taxidermist that does good skin mounts of stripers? Caught a 50.8 lber friday night from the beach (Montauk), so I want to get it mounted. Don't want a reproduction either. I live in Lowell, but don't care if I have to travel far to have it done. Can any of you help me out?

I don't have any pic's yet, but she was 49 inches long with a girth of 30 inches. One hell of a fight!

Thanks-

George

I think Janet Messineo on the Vineyard also does skin mounts.

Congrats on the fish

I think the procedure is to rap it moist towels an freeze it flat good side up.Be carefull not to damage any scales.

Thanks fellas. She took a live eel. A little bummed about that because my brother and I fish eels maybe 2 nights a year and this was one of them. (Well, not really that bummed!) At least it was cast and retrieve, not deadsticking. Went one one long run, then held her ground for what seemed like hours before she finally gave an inch, then two and so on. Something I'll never forget, and the prettiest fish I've ever seen!

Thanks again.

If its not too late, cover it in a borax before you freeze it, it helps preserve the color. Call Gone Fishing Marina in Montauk (631) 668-3232 and ask who they use use. They have some beautiful skin mounts in the shop.

I got quotes today from $10 inch to $25 inch. I called a couple tackle shops and got referrals from them, as well as you guys. A friend of mine had one done 2 years ago and the guy screwed the fish up. Turns out he had never done a striper before. I didn't want to make the same mistake.

It's a lot of cash, but well worth it in my opinion. God only knows if I'll ever get another 50!
