Grounded Fishing Boat

1 Attachment(s)
Sunday morning at 6 AM we were surpurized to see the Fishermans Dream grounded on Half Mile Rock. Apparently he ran up onto the rock at 5AM. The Westport Harbor Patrol was arriving at the same time.

The FD is a 65' foot scalloper out of New Jersey. The captain had no explaination to the Coast Guard as to how this happened. The boat had 5000 gallons of fuel on board.

When we left at noon the plan was to try and get him off at high tide around 5 PM. They wanted to pump off the fuel but the CG barge was too large to bring into that area???

When I showed a co-worker the photo he said he heard on the news that the boat sank. Does anyone know if the boat sank?

What happens to the captain in a situation like this?

CG/Insurance will do an investigation to see who was at fault.

HM Rock is pretty freaking visible and 6 is right there next to it.

Was the fog socked in in the morning like its been for the past month?

It was foggy but my guess is there was at least a half mile of visibility. I could see the boat at 6AM from where the east and west branch meet, as you turn south to exit the harbor.

From the chatter on the radio he was dragging in front of Horseneck beach, east to west, and was turning to head toward NJ.

I'd say someone wasn't paying attention to any of his nav aids (GPS-Radar), especially someone coming out of that entrance for a living. I guess I won't hit it for a quick few schoolies this weekend before heading out:(.

They ended up pulling him off with a tug. A diver inspected the hull prior to the pull..........

I'd say he's got some splainin' to do.........
