WARNING !WARNING!WARNING
Please be careful using Epay and Paypal , I'm having a problem (2nd time) with acount theft on ebay.. Somebody sold a $3500.00 Duccatti mototcycle on my account ..BUY NOW and ebay is billing me $66.00 selling fee for a bike I know nothing about. This happened to me before when I started recieving alot of questions from ebay users on items I wasn't selling .. If you recieve emails from ebay or paypal threatining to TOSS you,,sec 9 and all this crap .. DELETE them don't even open ..They are fake, frauds, bogus, wanting you to UPDATE your account information with credit card #'s ect.ect. right now or your account will be suspended .. DO NOT enter ebay site thru these emails guess what ? its all make believe and you are not even in the ebay site even though everything looks very familar. While you were hard at work today the lay about thieves were trying to come up with a new way to get in your pocket .. I have the feeling the thieves are having there way with ebay and the problem is HUGE ... This is not an angry rant .. I just see alot of you guys on there bidding on plugs and gear ,, don't want to see anyone of yous get hurt .. Change passwords often..random numbers and letters,,,BEWARE...

There is a lot of fraud related to eBay. I've rcvd fraudulent offers to buy things that I've bid on but lost. Thieves send you an e-mail to tell you that the winner has backed out and the item is now available to you at your bid price, but they ask you to pay via wire. Of course I never took them up on the offer but I can see how someone might. I've reported this to eBay and rcvd very little response from them. Don't trudst any solicitations that appear to be from eBay.

happened to an uncle of mine. got those e-mails and gave his info again and wham, 3 grand worth of motorcycle stuff on his credit card. idiot had the stufff all sent to his own house up in n.h. and the cops bagged him. last month ebay sent me some e-mails saying that they think someone got into my account. they were right, someone was trying to sell a tractor in my name. they cancelled the auction and nearly my account. i had to talk online with someone from ebay to figure it out. i asked how this could happen and they said that there are programs that follow my online patterns and keystrokes. basically, that it wasn't their fault and they are totally secure. i'm thinking of getting out all together, i'll just use a friend's account if i ever bid on a car again. i really can't stand these types of people! :realmad: so please, all be careful.

Just Say NO
You get an unsolicited email from EBay or PayPal, ignore it, delete it. If you are worried about your account, then log into either one of them, check your account information and 'MY EBAY' to make sure nothing is being sold or bid on and then change your password.
Passwords should be changed monthly, regardless of the hassle of trying to remember it. I write them down in a little steno pad I keep near the puter. Use passwords that don't relate to your SSN, Birthdate, Family Member names, Social Security Number etc. I use incidents from the past like year and country while in military or special memory month/name/year ie., 07victoria1963. Stuff like that. Nobody knows that info but you. Sarge :musc: |
freakin EBAY
it's very pervasive within our society...i decided to avoid it early on and despite never having an ebay account or ever doing ebay transactions i get those emails
weekly and always hit-> "message" / block sender. i try to do business the old fashion way with my eyes, hands on, and a handshake afterward if possible , otherwise i dont really need it that bad. |
I got this one the other day:

This has to be a fraud because my account is working fine. |
Last time I borrowed something I was the one that actually rcvd it. I think that is the kicker that it's a fraud attempt.
So who's Victoria Sarge and What happened in July of 63? ;-) |
My rule is that I never give information to anyone who contacts me first. If the phone company calls and asks me about my account , I tell them sorry , i will call you call you back at the number on my bill. Regardless of who it is , I don't give out info if they initiate the contact.

Thanks Eddie for the heads up.:) They probably got a bead on you cause of your Hells Angels days in the 60's. :hihi:
Seriously, sorry their trying to rip you off.:( |
I have had the same emails from Ebay telling me to update my account info or my account will be terminated. I found it strange so I called Ebay and they told me it was fake and to delete it. They told me all Ebay email should start with Dear than your name.
|
You should contact all 3 major credit houses and have your account flagged and password protected. EVERYONE should have this simple form of protection on their info.

I have recieved 3 or 4 e/mails about paypal recently..To the effect of "I have added a new name to my account"..Each e/mail said a different thing...I sent them to spoof@paypal.com...Got a response in about 5 minutes...They were all fraud..Not from paypal..And then they explained what to do...They will investigate the addresses...

These modern day services are very convenient, but a lot of care has to be taken. It may have been mentioned, but I was told by PayPal to NEVER respond to any email unless it addresses you by your name. Avoid those that say "dear PayPal member", etc. Scary stuff.

This is a hot and heavy topic right now, I heard a report about this on wbz this morning, it echoed fishaholic's post, I guess the scumbag theives are trying via fax as well.
