Canal, I ferget....
Which way is flood and which way is ebb. Little bro taking 41' sailboat through to Marion tonight.
Thanks |
flood: east
ebb: west |
Thanx, will pass it along, and try to remember myself
|
I don't think of it as ebb or flood
the tide turns going west at 3:17 this afternoon then changes to head east(against your bro) at 9:20 tonight. So I would say that if he gets to the canal by 9 he should be ok. |
What kind of a kicker does he have on it? I've seen sailboats that just barely made headway against the current. And a few that started drifting backwards once the current got up to full steam, and had to turn around and wait it out.
We're in the first quarter of the moon, so the current won't be ripping too hard, but still, he'll do better skating downcurrent. It's the difference between a 25 minute sleigh ride, or an hour and a half struggle while burning a lot of gas. |

Mike: That ain't no "kicker" in a 41 foot sailboat. ;) |
Volvo penta with a folding prop. We did OK against foul current in same boat last month, about two hours......I was staying three boat lengths off the wall to get out of current, so 7 plus knots throught the water, about 4-4.5K over the bottom. Stiil found a brick three boatlengths off, stopped 8 tons dead in the water. Hauled it and was minimal bondo damage.

Always right down the middle if you can.
A fellow cohort out of NBYC caused severe damage running about that distance from the riprap. |
