likwid 08-18-2005 06:55 AM

time for a career change.
if you keep feeling that way then its time to look at other options.
its seriously not good for mental (or physical) health.

we weren't made to be slaves to a system.

Pete 08-18-2005 06:56 AM

Took me 30 yrs to learn, don't ask, tell.

I'll be out next Fri. Not, can I get next Fri off? :bshake:

Thats the ticket! I finally worked the stones to tell not ask. At my age I should'nt need "permission" to take a day off.

Mr. Sandman 08-18-2005 12:13 PM

move on. Life it too damn short to spend working a job all the time. Scale back your excesses and work less, fish more. It can be done. Look at it this way. You just missed the best inshore tuna bite in 2 decades...because you were working. We all have to work but we don't have to be slaves to the job. (also, don't wait to retire to do these things...chances are you will be dead (from working too hard and worrying) or be in poor health and unable to do the things you want to do)

You need to ask yourself (and spouse) one question :chatter .... Is this what we want? If so, keep at it. If not, change your lifestyle. Do it. You will enjoy life a hell of a lot more.

likwid 08-18-2005 12:27 PM

What Mr. S said. :D :hihi:

Raven 08-18-2005 01:56 PM

thumbs up

i'll third that sentiment...

.................i have moved on .... :uhuh:

Homerun04 08-18-2005 02:05 PM

First move is the hardest.....second is a little easier......third like old hat....and so on.....it is the cycle of life young dude.....you'll never learn anything staying in the same spot all your life.....like striper fishing.....try another spot if this one is boring....then you'll be able to compare things and learn about things.

Raven 08-18-2005 02:23 PM

yeah..........go travel

the time to do it is when you're young...

that's what i did,,,and saw the whole USA

if i had waited til now or even longer still

it would never have happened.

afterhours 08-18-2005 05:30 PM

one, and only one word...."PRIORITIZE".....you'll be glad you did.

outfished 08-18-2005 10:44 PM

But in golfing you have to wear those silly pants and goofy shoes.

Bass Babe 08-19-2005 05:49 AM

Tim-Tim, I sympathize. I've already worked 42 hours this week, not counting today. I had to go pick up a dozen 1.5 gallon buckets of caulking yesterday, and a bunch of other equipment. I have a tiny, relatively nice sports car. Well, the dude loaded my car, ramming one bucket into my cd player (it's a trunk one) multiple times, smashing a bucket into my better rod and reel, and leaving grease stains on my back seat. :exp: I tell ya, my little car is a far cry from the company truck. And I got no compensation. Among other things, that is a reason I am getting out. It's hard; people get stuck in their ways and don't want to move or change, no matter how young or old they are. But once we do, I assume it will be glorious. Until then, don't let the man get you down.

tynan19 08-19-2005 06:47 AM

I work full time but get payed part time benefits because they hired me for part time. Then work another 20hrs at my other store. Used I feel. If it wasn't for the wife and kid and family around here I would be gone. :walk:

zacs 08-19-2005 07:53 AM

Bass Babe 08-19-2005 10:19 PM

I can't believe I have to work tomorrow. At least I put my foot down slightly and said only half a day. But I need to be up at 315 (AM!!) to pick up the 3 $hitbum employees that don't have cars, and go to the job. Not just to finish, but RE-caulk an entire side of the building. Yeah, they said they knew how to do it, and when I brought the materials, they looked at the guns funny, and I had to show them how to mix the caulk. I show up this morning, and there are waves of caulk pouring out of the window seams. ACK! The incompetence of others cost me my Saturday morning sleep-in. Jerks. :lossinit: :hf1:

RIJIMMY 08-22-2005 12:40 PM

3 years ago my daughter, our first child, was 2 months old. I was so miserable at work, her birth was just another thing I needed to worry about. Should have been one of my happiest moments. I felt used and more importantly, I was comprosing my values and beliefs by staying in an unhealthy environment working for complete morons. I was feeding her a bottle at 3 am and said to her that someday I have to look her in the eye and explain to her that I sold out and why. I didnt have the courage to do what I thought was right. I wondered how I could look her in the eye if I did not have the confidence in myself? My position was a VP in a very large investment company, a dream job for some. The next day, I went to my management and gave them an ultimatum, make these changes, or else. Two weeks later they told me to screw. Here I was with a newborn and unemployed, mortgage, cars,etc.. I busted my butt to find a new job despite a bad economy. It took me 4 months Now, I have a great job, better pay, better people and I am happier. You have to be true to yourself. Some places are not good places to work, some people are not good to work for.

vineyardblues 08-22-2005 06:01 PM

just like the cartoon above Vic :)

Just think , your single, not like us,house, cars, kid's wife :)
After working 18 years at the same place, 1/2 cut in pay , still have not rebound in 4 years , u r lucky ,,,,plus u r young ,,,,u slut bad u

seabass 08-22-2005 06:29 PM

After over twenty years of work, I've come to several realizations.
1) You are replaceable, no matter what you think, the company is not going to end without you.
2) You are only worth a percentage of what you made them.
3) The only person who gives a sh@t about you is you, they only care about what you made them
4) If it's not MY time, then it's their time, and they have to pay, no free extras.
5) If you don't ask, they wont offer, and if they do you're getting really screwed.
6) No job is worth more than my family, I don't care how much money, time with my wife and kids is priceless.
7) I was looking for a job when I took this one, I'm not afraid to look again.
8) a hundred problems solved today, a hundred new ones tomorrow. Give a 100% everyday, thats all anyone can ask.
9) Most important, when you leave work, leave the job there, don't bring it home, it will still be thier when you get back.
10) You spend more time at work then with your wife, do something you love, and have funn doing it!!!!!!!!!! :kewl:
