JoeP 08-26-2005 09:51 AM

I wish my Simms had a hood like that for downpours.

NIB 08-26-2005 09:51 AM

Go speed racer.

spence 08-26-2005 09:52 AM

Just get the Simms top...it's cheaper and will match your waders :hihi:

I wonder how that hydrophillic coated fabric stands up to the salt? If it's anything like Gore-tex I would suspect not very long. Looks good though.

Are you saying that Gore-Tex doesn't stand up to salt water? I've been considering getting a new foul weather jacket and wonder if a Gore-Tex one is good or as you suggest, that it doesn't stand up to the salt. Curious . . .

#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, I looked at that product...the one thing that caught my eye was:
"Water-resistant front zip" hmmm....don't think "resistant" is going to cut it. That zipper is a source for water to get you wet and cold.

You could borrow John's Hurricane top to try...on second thought it may be a little big. :tooth: They are the nutz when it gets a little cold. Only drawback is that it isn't breathable.

i use this when it gets realy rough

basswipe 08-26-2005 05:32 PM

That gear is absolutely specialized towards the hardcore sailor.

If you wanna use sailing gear step up to the Henri Lloyd stuff and spend some real money!!!

Mr. Sandman 08-26-2005 06:52 PM

Actually I have used (and still do) Gill's dingy racing jacket for summertime fishing thru sept. It is light and very comfortable. Not fully waterproof like an evoII but for days when it is 60 deg+ it is great. Also you can slip a sweater inside if you have to. When I get serious I put on the skinz.

protty31 08-27-2005 02:34 AM

Eben that gear looks like it belongs at area 51,lmao. :laughs:

dickmont 08-27-2005 06:24 PM

Nebe 08-27-2005 06:53 PM

JohnR 08-29-2005 04:33 PM

Bill - I merged the new thread with the old one so people might know what you are talking about.

likwid 08-29-2005 09:23 PM

basswipe is correct.

Ocean XCR Gore-Tex will outlive any rubberized crap you can buy.
And it *gasp* breathes!

They do make some SERIOUS stuff for the offshore market. Being in the same building as Team1 Newport I've taken a look at almost everything sailboaters have from a fisherman's perspective. If it wasn't so expenisve I'd probably experiment more...

I've got both a set of lloyd ocean racer and gill key west, both are gore-tex and while the pricetag is as much as some people spend on all their fishing gear, both sets will last ~5-10 years (esp. the ocean racer stuff... it dosen't see much use, but when it does, its ABSOLUTELY necessary)

The lloyd dinghy smock w/ the watertight seals is just as rugged as the aquaskins top.

Team1's prices are definitely a little steep, easier to pick stuff like that up at the boat show or out of Defender during the (northern hemisphere) off season.

Personally I am a Musto guy for my foulies. I buy almost everything online.

Great prices on the net at APS. Check the sale rack for last years gear and get some insane deals. For example, if you need a XXL dry suit, check out this insane deal. http://www.apsltd.com/Tree/d75000/e72079.asp

That is almost what I paid for my waiders.

I also have gotten good deals at layline.com as well.

I'm not affiliated with either of these companies.

wow

Nebe, best you ever looked guy! The neighborhood is probably a little skeptical though.

likwid 08-30-2005 12:39 PM

APS has great prices too.

Esp. on Dubarry sea boots (May very well be the most comfortable/reliable sea boots I've ever owned)
