Surfbag for the hunk
What plugs would you carry to fish the end of next week on Cuttyhunk. Going for a few days with some of my brothers and while I will have to go drag tubes, (they are gonna make me) I will spend as much time as possible pluggin away.
My brother has fished there for years but trolls almost exclusively. He thinks that is the only way to catch decent fish. And there is no rivalry......... |
big swimmers and big needles

EELS !! AND SLUGGOS!
I am going there for three days, leaving on the 21st with Steve cant wait.... |
Don't forget a teaser
|
So far this is what I'm bringing:
Rigged eels, yes slugggos too, needles from 5" to a foot, Way too many other plugs, all my usual surf stuff plus my splash pants for the boat. I won't forget the teasers. I have to pack when my wife ain't around cuz she'll pick on me like I pick on her when she packs for a wknd. But my stuff is all important............. |
dont forget a popper for sunrise... :D
|
Pikies in yellow are a must. Try some dannies too.
|
silver and black popper in am
yellow darter when sun is out |
we caught on BF white and red pencils and AH jr. spooksters- bone over orange and blondes.
|
Danny plugs both medium and large. Pencil poppers in 2oz. Needles that float and an asst. of Spooks and Howdy types. Flaptails if you got any. Remember that there is a lot of structure just under the surface and lots of grass so 99% of what you throw there should be on or just below the surface.

throw in some bombers or windcheaters because of those rocks. yellow, white, olive for day. black, olive for night

Proven Productive
Hab's Needle in yellow/red head, Hab's 2 ounce popper in same color and Mike Fixter's Pikie in yellow with a red head or similar offering -- next choice a big fat Danny. Certain water conditions might make Tattoo's 3 oz. Sea Pup in Poggie Pattern a killer offering as well.
Slugo's are just about all that a local sharpie fishes -- and his father made plugs on the island back just after WWII -- he use to fish just about everything wood and these days it's mostly soft plastic he's tossing. I think I'll tie a slugo to one of my fins and see if I can draw a strike next week when I return to do a little filming. I'll give the forum the low down on the fish-eye view. |

Bring Redfins instead ;) |
I use a Windcheater Olive back last fall at Cutty. Caught my personal best 44 1/4. I grind half of the lip down. This keeps it closer to the surface with a slooooow retrieve. I use this plug especially if it 's windy and/or if I want to start my presentation over the third wave swell. Billy D :ss:
