What ya run, and what ya get? (MPG)

Just did a week long different type mileage check outta my truck, to see how bad it is....

98 F-150 ex-cab short bed, 4.6 , 4X4, automatic:

Just did 2 straight days of Highway, filled the tires to 35 pounds, gave it a fresh wash job, drove it like I stole it, speed limits in 3 states were broken :D, (vowed not to change driving style, to alter results)
19.1 MPG... (I was pleased and surprised)

Around town, with air in tires, 15.5, some sit and wait, some run and gun.

Beach driving, some around town, aired down, (my usual summer M.O.)
11.6 ( So maybe I'll actually air up every time, from now on)

All three were better than I would have figured.....

So... how you guys doing?

likwid 09-05-2005 08:34 PM

I haven't driven my truck in a week. :D

2003 chevy silverado 4x4 ext. cab 8 ft. bed with a 5.3 liter engine.
I average 16.2 mpg that's highway, city, beach, pulling my small boat, and pulling an enclosed trailer full of cabinets. I use it for sightseeing, work and fishing.I can only afford one truck and this one does it all. If I drive all highway, I'd get 18-19 easy if I stay at 65 or under.
34 gallon tank cost 100 bucks to fill :nailem:

justplugit 09-06-2005 08:16 AM

96 Ford F-150 5.0 4x4- open road 20 mpg at 1800 rpm --60 mph. Local driving around 16mpg.

Usually run #32, but thanks for remindng me to bump it upto #35 0n a trip Karl.:D
Oh, BTW Karl, when ya get your Flow 50s your gonna be gunnnin and runnin and your local mileage is gonna drop like a rock. :hihi:  And don't forget to put some $$ aside for tickets.:hihi:

98 Chevy Minivan....Won't drive on beach, but is very suitable for Rhody Fishing. 25 MPG if I keep it at 70, goes to 20 when I need to drive in CT style traffic where either the gas or the brake pedal is on the floor at all times.......

Man, you must have a death wish, buying a car called the Exploder. ;)

My Escort...not the male one, the Ford one... goes over 300 miles on about 10 gallons. So 30 mpg on average. I haven't bothered to calculate highway versus rural routes. Good fishmobile, as long as I stick to 2-piece rods and one or no passengers.

03 Nissian Xterra 6cyl 4x4....Figured around 17 mpg...18 gallon tank..300 miles per tank.

piemma 09-06-2005 01:13 PM

2004 TrailBlazer. Computer says 18.5 MPG average. Not so bad for a mid-size SUV. If I took the 700 odd plugs, 2 pair of waders, jackets, 120 qt cooler and assorted other junk out I probably would get 20. I carry too much junk with me.

I've got a few!!!
ford f350 dump (gas) 460 engine carburated 8-10 mpg if I'm lucky!!!
ford f350 dump (gas) 460 engine injected 9-10 mpg
full size Chevy blazer 350 throttle body 9-10 mpg
f8000 (BIG) dump !!! Cat 3208 not sure on the mpg, but will idle on very little diesel all day and night!!!
2003 parker with 250 Yamaha 4stroke about 7-8 gph!
Wifes mini van, about 19-21 mpg

I just sold my Toyota 4cyl 4wheel drive pick up that drove about a week and a half on a tank full of gas :behead: :bc: :bc:

I'm looking for a newer Toyota now, maybe a 4runner
and getting rid of the Blazer VERY soon!!!

Believe it or not, I just got over 22 mpg on my trip home from the Cape on Sunday with my 2002---and that included some local running around yesterday before I gassed up

Normally, I do 20, maybe 21 on a trip, 19-20 on "NY style" highway, and 17 or so with a mix of driving. Maybe 16 with 15-20 miles of the beach thrown in.

4 liter straight 6 with automatic O/D.

NIB 09-07-2005 08:22 AM

i just spent 200 bucks on gas on a recent trip (3 nights) to RI.I have a E350 van with a 34 gallon tank thet equates to about 2 tankfulls.at around six hundred miles.plenty of daytime sittin wit the air on an lookin at the water.to offset this I sleep in my van a shower in the sink at the donkin donuts.kinda gross washin ur face with a big b00gie on the edge of the sink.Don't they clean them things. When i get home I go to the firehouse an get a silkwood shower.

1995 toyota 4 skinner
Nothing working on my dash board, so I have no clue :)

Also a ton of rust, just 2 more years with this beast,
then I am doing diesel,,,maybe

NJTackle 09-07-2005 02:47 PM

04 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Quad Cab LWB with 6spd Cummins, 35" tires, 4" lift, exhaust, AFE intake, blah, blah, blah

My average since new over 41,308 miles is 17.36 mpg (I keep a spreadsheet) :). This average includes everything from traffic, some heavy towing, city, highway, warm ups, etc. However, on open highway running 75mph I get 21+ mpg. Stopping and starting a 8k lb truck around town REALLY kills my overall mileage.

EDIT: As a side note, check out what the IRS is doing for Diesel owners. You'd think to be fair they would do the same for gasoline running vehicles but nooo!
