Unexpected catch
We were trolling tube and worm just inside Buttermilk Bay in the deeper water of the channel, which isn't that deep, hoping to get a decent bass but we were picking up the usual schoolies. Then the rod doubled over, thought I was caught on something but every so often I would feel a head shake. Wasn't sure what it was, finally after a good fight we got it to the boat. Ended up being a good sized fluke. Measured it, was 28 inches long. Weighed it back at home, was 7 1/2 pounds. I fileted it but it was harder than I expected, much harder than filleting a flounder. But it tasted great, had some fried and some baked. Anyway, just thought I would relay the story, never thought I would catch a fluke on a red tube in that shallow water.

i was fly fishing there and had a trigger fish swim right up in front of me

Fluke are aggressive fish. Couple years back I caught one from a Falmouth jetty on a live eel. Good size eel and not that big of a fluke!

they are strange
i once caught one on a plug... a floating rapala shallow diver...
it hit the plug on the surface and i thought it was a striper. 7.5 pounds! wow! thats a biggun for sure ... nice :btu: |
Yeah that is what everyone has been telling me. I knew it was a good sized one but I never caught one so I had nothing to compare it to. Strange that I would catch it there, it was near the bridge that crosses 28, next to Buzzards Bait.

Water moves thru there fast. Fluke like fast moving water and are very aggresive. Nice catch. Paul
