Bigcat 09-25-2005 12:25 PM

Loser goes home.

ProfessorM 09-25-2005 01:23 PM

Nothing would be sweeter to beat the Yanks at Fenway on the last day of season to knock them out of the AL East and out of the wild card behind Cleveland. Man that would be as good as last year. Problem is I don't know if my nerves could take it because if we lost we would be out and all we would hear from them is curse crap again. Go Sox's

afterhours 09-30-2005 07:34 AM

yup- right down to the final series! this is GREAT! may the best team win. GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!

rockyroady 09-30-2005 01:16 PM

red sox' chances

correct if I'm wrong, but if chicago sweeps cleveland(very possible) and if Boston wins just one from Yanks, we get wildcard? NESN blew through the scenarios last night and I was as confused as Eckersly looks.

Jimbo 09-30-2005 01:54 PM

I think things look pretty good, I understand the Yanks are sending a real Wang to the mound.

Mike P 09-30-2005 01:54 PM

You are correct. Boston and Cleveland have identical records as of today---93-66.

If Cleveland gets swept, all the Sox have to do is win 1 of 3 to get the wild card.

If they both get swept, there's a one game play-off, and I believe it's at Fenway.

The Dad Fisherman 09-30-2005 02:09 PM

One thing I'm confused about is that they said that Chicago clinched the division. They are only up by 3 games over cleveland and they have a 3 game series w/ Cleveland this weekend....so how is that clinched?

....and we don't want the Wildcard......we want the division :D

TheSpecialist 09-30-2005 08:09 PM

4-1 in the 6th, thank you Giambi :musc:

heard that that are tie breakers involved.

afterhours 09-30-2005 09:19 PM

WE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :musc: :bgi:

Surfcastinglife 09-30-2005 11:38 PM

if cleveland sweeps chicago, they are automatically in correct? yes correct of course they would have 96 wins. chicago already has 96 so they would be in as well, leaving either the sox or yanks out ;P and since chicago owns the tiebreaker in their division with cleveland they already have the division clinched

But whats the Tie-Breaker...If the Yanks/Sox finish tied there is a playoff game for the division, but if Chicago/Cleveland finish tied Chicago wins on a tiebreaker???? I don't get it. Sox/Yanks play 19 games in the regular season so if there's a tiebreaker wouldn't that be it?

BigFish 10-01-2005 06:05 AM

TDF...neither the Sox or Yanks can win the wildcard...thus they must determine the division winner should there be a tie in the regular season.....Chicago has won the central and Cleveland it appears is the wild card winner.....got it now?

Striperhound 10-01-2005 07:06 AM

Going to the 1 pm game today, cant wait. All said and done this weekend, It does not matter to me as long Cleavland is out and its October Yankees-Sox again next week. Ok i'll let the cat out of the bag, Go Yankee's!

afterhours 10-01-2005 07:12 AM

BigFish 10-01-2005 07:16 AM

 Sox and Yanks are both one game up on Cleveland so the wild card is still wide open to all three teams.

I don't know what all this tiebreaker talk is about. If the Sox and Yankees finish with identical records, which is still possible, the 19 games they played and who won more of them means nothing. There'd still be a one game playoff.

afterhours 10-01-2005 07:25 AM

now i'm confused about the central situation- eei talked about tie breakers there but not in east- why do we have playoff possibilities and they don't?

Striperhound 10-01-2005 08:12 AM

Hope my Yanks win but the experience is far better than the outcome. Fenway, Sox-Yanks, Sausage and Peppers and stale beer. If Basketball or Hockey or Football had anything like Sox-Yanks people would love those sports more. Its funny to say but this weekend series will clean up alot of the ill will baseball is feeling over the steroid issue.

I read why Chicago had clinched the Central yesterday. It was about as complicated as the NFL tiebreaker involving 3 teams with the same record. Apparently, no wild card team could have more than 96 wins, so the Central would be decided on head-to-head record between Chicago and Cleveland, with the Chisox holding an 11-5 edge before last night.

Anyway, after least night, it's all academic. Cleveland now has to win both games to even have a shot at the wild card.

I also read this morning that there will be no play-off on Monday if the Yanks and Sox finish in a tie, and the Indians are out of the running. The Yankees would be awarded the diision by virtue of a 10-9 head-to-head record, and the Sox would get the wild card.

Yankees fans should be careul of what they wish for---if the Yanks get the wild card, they open against Chicago, who they've handled pretty well this year. If they win the division, they get the Angels, who've given them problems.

There was a time, lasted maybe a decade I want to say, where the Rangers-Bruins was the huge rivalry, ran from roughly the late 60's thru the late 70's. Those were definate down years for your Yanks, especially when you think that the Yanks had gone from the days of the Babe to Dimaggio to Mickey........to Roy White as Mr Yankee.

Go Sox...

afterhours 10-01-2005 03:54 PM

we lose.......

Bass Babe 10-01-2005 04:02 PM

Oh my goodness, this is so confusing. Now that the Yankees have the AL East, who plays whom for the wildcard, and under what conditions? Too bad we can't be illegal immigrants to the NL West. The teams out there didn't do very well at all this year.

beachwalker 10-01-2005 04:05 PM

:buds:

:wavey:

go yankees ! :hidin:

afterhours 10-01-2005 04:47 PM

congrats to the yankee fans....hopefully we'll meet again in the playoffs.
