Camping/Fishing on the Sound?
Hi all -
I'm thinking about heading down to LI Sound this weekend to do some blue/striper fishing. I'll be fly-fishing with my 9wt, and thought I'd just pitch my tent for a night or two. I'd like to find a camping area in eastern Connecticut or Rhode Island with good shoreline access for flyfishing. Anyone make any suggestions? TIA ED PS: I would head out to the Cape, but that's a 4.5 hour drive from Albany, NY. Eastern Connecticut/Rhode Island should only be about 3 hours. |
Just camped at Hammanoset (SP) state park in Ct; didnt wet aline but great facilities and plenty of access....
Somewhere around exit 62 on 95... Bryan |
Yep...just looked at that one from the Conn Parks Division website....thanks!

Hammonassett is good and ROcky Neck state park also has access.

Crossing the middle of those hammo rocks is very tricky. wear korkers. nice rip forms there.....

Burlingame
If I were you, I would go to Burlingame State Park in Charlestown RI. Great place to camp and loads of great fishing this time of year. If I were driving all the way from Albany, I would definitely go the extra distance and skip Hammonasset to fish Rhody.

I agree with Zimmy.....for the extra 45 minutes drive, in gods country....

Well, it's not that much further - difference of 2.5 hours to 3 hours.
I took a look at a road map....seems like the campground is "inland", but there's the normal "beach road" to get me to the shore. It also looks like some lagoons with inlets on either side...I suspect that would be a good spot! How's the overall fishing in that area? Is the bottom more sandy, or more rocky? And other info is helpful! TIA Ed |
