Tip replacement help needed
 

My Chevy Blazer is about an inch to short for my Saltheart custom Allstar 1265 2pc to fit in without breaking it down. But I usually don't around town, and I am now paying the price. The ceramic cracked and half fell out during a retrieve resulting in a well launched Lonely Angler plug being set free into the North Atlantic.....

I heated the tip and removed it. Now I can only find all metal replacements locally! Seems to have been a run on the rod tip stocks,,,So my question is,
1. Do I just put on the metal tip for the rest of the year?
2. If so, do I epoxy it on?
3. If I epoxy it on, will that lead to problems when I want to put on a SIC Fuji over the winter?

I hope Saltheart chimes in. I already did a search for the answer, which led me to another; should I remove the nice wrap that sits/sat just below the old tip?

I'm an idiot when it comes to this rod repair stuff apparently, but don't want to mess up the rod tip.

I always use something called ferrule cement. You heat it with a match, candle, torch or whatever and apply it like a pencil over the rod and stick the tip on. I know gudegrod makes one. I have some other brand that I have had around for years and it still works well. I don't know if you will be able to get it off with epoxy. With the heat up types I have used if you want to replace with a better one later, you just heat it up again and it slides off.
I am about to fix my shimano fightin rod that lost it's tip in a closet door......

did the same in a car window to my old tica tip top....

a guy at the local marina near me builds rods and had a few extra tips ...
he gave me a stick of 'hot glue' and said heat it so it melts onto the tip and slide the new tip on let it cool, done... worked ever since.

you can wrap thread over the "new" connection and get rod finish ala gudebrod

or leave it as I did . to remove just reheat with lighter.

Mike T will have a Tip. All my rods have Fuji SiC tips. I'm guessing yours is about a 7-16. Safest thing would be to mail it (the broken tip, not the rod) to Mike and he can mail you back the identical tip.

Put it on with 5 minute epoxy. Put the epoxy on the rod tip and inside the tube then put together. Leave the wrap under it. That's there so the tip will fit down the rod about an inch further should you ever actauuly break the section of rod that goes up into the tip tube.

only 20 bucks

Bingo, Thats where I go to get them Fixed. Real fast and real cheap. If its just the Tip and they're not busy you can probably get it fixed in 5 minutes while you browse.

Geesh... you guys make it sound like PI is just down the block! With the TW tunnel it doesn't take much more time to go to M&Ds. I think I'll put the chrome tip on and get a SiC Fuji back on this winter.

I'll probably be able to take it down to M&D's for you in couple weeks. Got a rod that I need to pick up. Could at least save you one trip.

You gotta remember I live 20 minutes from there...:D

Don't put a chrome tip on. You'll regret it. Get the SiC tip. do leave the fancy underwrap on and use 5 minute epoxy to install it.

I got the Fuji sics. TDF picked them up for me. The chrome was just to get me through the fall. This thread was from October, I just bumped it to thank TDF. Do you still think epoxy vs ferule cement or hot glue gun?
