Surfrunner almost sank today
If not for the effort of the Newport Harbor master by boat would be sitting on the bottom today. He saw that she was taking on water and sent his son to the Hinckly Yard to get a high volume pump. By the time I got to Newport she was pumped out. The bats were dead though from pumping out all the rain. Got a new battery and got her started. Then pumped her dry. Between my storm drain issues, a transformer explosion outside my front door and the boat I have been going from one diaster to another. I am going to bed now. Been at it since 4:45 am. and I an fricking exhausted. :sleeps:

Don,t go fishing ///////

At least seven boats went down between Stone Cove Marina and next door at Pt Jude YC.
|
At Least one still down at Harborlight Marinia :hs:

We made it out with the r/v at Brewers Cowesett, one dead pump battery, the back-up was still charged, boat was fairly dry. Quick charge of the batt this AM and we're no worse for the wear; phew...
Hey Duke; those Npt Harbor master guys are alright, huh.. who caught the boat in Time? Tim, Rudy or George? |

To us? Nothing, just a dead battery from running a bilge pump 24/7 for a week, we have a back up system that was all set.. Besides the r/v has good scuppers, drains well.. gotta love old RoMarines...
I'm guessing Duke's batteries died and his bilge pump quit, then she just fills with water... |
Oh OK. Was worried you almost sunk. BTW, my water problems are much worse than I initially thought. The ceiling collapsed in the hall closet. I went into the attic and there is a ton of wet plywood, insulation etc. Big leak. Got a contractor lined up...finally after 20 calls.

Sucks, great time to travel...

Glad you escaped a BIG problem.. :btu:
Question though, why is the bildge seeing so much water due to rain? My floor scuppers drain to the outside, and the boat is pretty well sealed between floor and bildge so even during really hard rain, the bildge sees very little water. Does your deck drain to the bildge? Is there a problem there? Just curious, still happy for you. |
Yeah we have a small leave in a hatch port that I'll deal with when we hual around turkey-day, we have had numerous add-ons and removed equipment, and I think some previous work was not sealed as well as it should be. This winter will be the first I will be really able to get involved with some indepth work on the deck.

all the water in my boat drains into the bilge. it really sucks, but the boat sits too low in the water for scuppers. this winter i will cut out the wet deck, remove the wet foam, remove the wet stringers, replace all of the above and hopefully it will sit high enough for scuppers like it once did. I will also be using newer lightter weight materials, so that should help too. And i will move the bateries and oil tank forward. I feel for you guys. I have three bateries on a rotation for stormy situations. I had to change one out at the begining of the storm and thats it. i have to check it twice a day when its raining, though or i am thinking about it all the time. Luckily I didn't have to think about it too much this [[dry]] summer, except thinking about where I was going to go fish.

I raised a boat in Cohasset that had no drains... Guy didn't check the boat in 2 weeks. Called me and said that the new battery I put in 6 weeks ago was bad and his boat was sinking. I hauled it, flushed the engine and got it running on a Sat. night and the guy still had a puss on his face complaining about the radio I put in not working... Told him to find a new person to maintain his boat!
