Duplicator upsidedown mount

Looking into the Vega midi. I read it can be mounted upsidedown on the opposite side, so you can still turn by hand. Anyone mount thier dupicators this way? Is it any harder to use? The other option is to take it off when its not being used, any one do that? How hard is it to set back up and align?

The third and best option is to have two lathes, but I dont think thats an option.

How are your duplicators mounted?

I'm pretty sure MAC's got his set up that way... No Duplicator for me, YET.

I believe a few guys have them set up on the back of their lathes. I tried to do this on my Jet with the vega and it will not work. Some knob gets in the way if I remember right. Some guys go ahead and install the dup whenever they need to use it. Not real hard. When I upgraded to the Jet, I kept my Grizzly lathe and use that for on offs or turning a few proto-types.

I set up mine that way.
It works fine.

Taking it off and setting it back up is doable, but it does take about 20 minutes. You can help yourself out a lot if you mark all attachment points and adjustments with a sharpie. It still won't be perfect when you put it back on, but it will be close.

The only drawback I have with mounting it upside down is that it tends to throw wood waste up instead of down and it seems to make the dust collector less efficient. :scatter:

I run my duplicator on the back on this one. When I had the small Delta I ran a vega midi on the back too. Like Jigman said it won't work with a Jet midi. All you mount upside down is the cutter. Remember to set it slightly below center when mounting it on the backside.

Thanks for the replys. I have a Jet mini...doesn't look like this is an option. Either take it on and off or add another lathe to the shop. Option 2 sounds good...
