wireless internet connection
I can only get a signal in certain rooms in my house and don' tknow why and or how to improve the signal.
I've got my router/modem up stairs in my daughters room on a desk top. My laptop has the wireless card. I'm thinking of moving the router.modem to another room. Can anyone help? Thanks |
Ronnie sometimes the signal wont get through the old plaster cause it's like concrete..

Ronnie,
I have an intermittand signal sometimes and can never figure out why it keeps geting and losing the connection.... I swear it happens more on cloudy days |
Go to http://www.netstumbler.org/ and download net stumbler. Once installed, and you RTFM (read the flippin manual - or at least part of it) you will understand how to walk around your house and see how strong the signal is. With this knowledge, you can move your wireless router around and test the signal quality to find the best place for it...

I should have done what JohnR said....I gave up and wired the whole house with ethernet cable, I have no problems now.

I installed a wireless set up at a friends office with 20 computers. All Netgear equipment by recommendation, all worked ok.
But they were always slow. and there was one that had no signal or a very little signal of 4 to 9 mbps Well that was back in Sept. I went there today after doing some looking around and research and I added Linksys WRT54GX, http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...VisitorWrapper Let me tell you those computers are as fast as if they were conected stright to the cable modem! And the slow computer that had 4 to 9 mbps if anything, now is still the slowest but has 38 to 42 mbps! I just bought a Netgear Wirless about a month ago cause they were just about giving them away! Well it went back to the store today and I am now going Linksys, should be here tomorrow!! I will never use anything else again!! |
