nature made plugs

Since i tend to think out of the box...and enjoy the freedom of FREE... :)
i'm always looking at alternative wood sources.....
and also because Cape Sams was talking about maple chair parts for plugs:heybaby:

i wanted to share with the board this idea i've had for a year or so when i found this pine heartwood in a New Hampshire stream and was surprised at how dense (heavy) the wood is ....from being hardened in the stream for so long. i don't own a barrel sander or a belt sander (yet) :uhuh: but will be sanding this into a plug at some point as it already has a plug with in it
in my (artist) minds eye . Next to the quarter in the photo (which is a scan
on my scanner...) is a small piece of pine heartwood that is petrified for those of you who think pine isn't durable enough.. the large piece weighs 2 0z as is... and the rock or petrified wood weighs 1/4th of that. next time i go up north
i'm going to collect a bunch of them... :o

nice////old cedar swamps in saltwater marshes are a great place to hunt for that kind of stuff. that's if you live around the shore or where a river runs far up into the main land.

The top grade AYC comes from "sunken Timber" up in Alaska. The harvest it from logs that sunk many years ago.
