Hip boots / knee highs?
 

I'm looking to pick up some shorter boots for fishing areas where wading isn't an option like jetties and rocky shore with deep water in tight. Maybe some of you canal guys have some good recomendations. I'll be doing a bit of walking in some places, so they have to be pretty comfortable. I was looking at some neoprene hippers from Cabela's, as well as some of their rubber Muck boots. I have an older pair of rubber hippers I use sometimes now, but they are not too comfortable on longer walks.

I prefer thigh highs :heybaby: but that's another story I guess :rolleyes:

I'm cheap. Go to Bananas and see what they got there for hip waders.

Rubber knee high boots and splashpants. If you go the hip boot route, try them on first, some much more comfortable than others. Or you could just get a bike:)

you can get the cheap rubber insulated hip boots or the fancy ankle contor hip boots from cabelas that i like. get some comercial grade splash pants to go over them

Picked up my knee highs at wilcox marine supply in galilee around the corner from pt judith. Very comfortable can wear and walk in them all night and day.

I wear the knee-highs with splash pants when it's too cold to get wet on the outer beach. Same pants I wear with foul weather top in the boat. I've got a pair I bought on sale at EMS three years ago. They were made for skiers and are dam near industructible and light as a feather.

LL Bean has some wader pants which you wear wader boots with
I wear them in the fall with a splash top. This is most comfortable
way I could find.

I got a pair of Hip boots from Red Top about 2 years ago. I love those things. Comfortable, easy on/off and only $15.00!

I get the Lacrosse knee highs. I put some decent athletic shoe inserts inside them, and they're pretty comfortable to walk in.

Thanks guys. I will be using splash pants most nights. It's much nicer in the summer to wear bibs and boots than waders when you can't wade.

I have done this for years, never wore waders, bibs and hippers are very comfortable and I dont do much true wading because I fish around rocks. This past year I switched to the simms G3 Waders because they are so comfortable........

ProLine makes a great pair of knee highs with full arch support. Tried them last year after using Red Balls for years on the rocks, feet always hurt after a few hours with kokers, not so with the proline boots. I have some you can look at. Hope this helps!

My old ones have had it.

I wear my knee-highs for a lot of coastal activities, herring run, bait gathering some dingy related adventures, I used them once for scalloping (waders are really needed for this). I have tried several brands, all were OK but the best deal I got was a $15 pair I got off of ebay (delivered) and I have 4 years on them now and they are just starting to show wear.Eventually they crack. They take a lot of abuse though. I wear mine alot!
They are great for a lot of activities, checking the eel/crab traps, shallow water bait collecting, and dock and jetting fishing. I think I can squeeze one more season from the cheapos.

Muck brand knee highs are very comfortable and come in a variety of sole styles. You can get them at Agway stores. I've got some Bean lightweight hippers that are pretty good also, I'd buy 'em again.

I will have to get the model when I get down to the shore on Wednesday. I post the model then.

I usually drive the beach in muck boots, with waders in the back. If surf's up I drive around in waders.

Another vote for the Cabela's contour ankle hippers. They are a little harder to get on and off, but they walk really nice, sorta like wearin' sneakers

I stumbled into Redtop 3 years ago and found a pair of Lacrosse waders for $11. Best money ever spent for jetty work, don't think they'd be ideal for hours of walking. great for driving spot to spot - easy on, easy off.

I have recently switched from hippers to knee highs on the low tide weeks at the canal. I got a pair of LLBeans with a knobby sole.

On high tied weeks , you are on the rocks and i believe sneakers work well. On the low tied weeks, we can get into gravel or mud fast if we have boots that allow you to stand in a foot of water. Gravel and mud are way easier on the legs than rocks so you really need some kind of boots every other week.

Anyway , my vote if no wading is knee highs for getting around more comfortably. My next choice would be the breatheable hippers. they look almost nylon or goretex stuff above a standard rubber boot. the upper nylon part ties to yur leg with a shoie lace. anyway , they look like they would be very comfortable for walking.
