wood bomber

6inches, approx 1.5oz, AYC, stainless throughwires and hook hangers. Lip material was cut from a plastic tacklebox divider.
Hard to tell from the pics but the sides are pearl white with very fine glitter (sparse). The top is black, belly yellow/orange and the head is black with some yellow/green pearl. Inspired by a bomber but changed slightly.

WOW.. Real Nice Work, and Awsome paint.

if not too much to ask , could you tell us how you did the hangers?

steelhead 12-03-2005 11:16 AM

WOW!!!!

How long did it take you to make that sweet little fish from start to finish? For rhe belly hooks, do you use swivels and then fill with putty? Or some other kind of hanger? I'm seeing more and more plugs with all the holes filled. Is that make them a totally water tight assembly?

Im not really sure how long it took. Cut the basic shape on the bandsaw and sanded on the beltsander. Had to make sure there were reference lines so it wouldnt get lopsided. Yes, I made the hangers from stainless wire. The holes were filled with devcon 30 min epoxt and allowed the plug to soak it down into the through wire hole. Topped off the holes with wood filler. The plug is totally sealed. Heres a pic of the hanger arrangement:

Great work Fluki!!!!
Having just completed my attempts at building the plug I can understand the enjoyment you had making it. I'm sure just like me you enjoyed the different problems and solutions you came across. I am in a second run of the plugs and did some different things this time. Not saying I lki this version better just tried different things. My next version after this group will be made looking for simpler ways to reproduce. I have some out of the box thoughts on a way to build them quicker and cleaner.

Young Salt 12-04-2005 08:51 AM

me likey

did you mask off the body to paint the head?

FlukinUki 12-04-2005 10:01 AM

Thanks again guys. Youngsalt, No masking of anything. Sprayed the whole plug pearl white, shot some pearl silver down the back then black over that onto the head. I let some get behind the Gill plate I carved to look like a shadow. Then some pearlex Yellow/green misted on the head. Mixed yellow and red for the belly.

Took the completed plug for a swim yesterday and it swam very well. Nice tight wiggle.
