One of Salty's Blown Out Needles
1 Attachment(s)
Last spring #^^^^^^^^^^^& gave me a few blown out needle bodies to play with.... I filled themisaligned thru drill holes, and redrilled them. Some still ended up in then firewood bin.... This one was a complete success. Fisihing one of my favorite rips up here. Tossed the guy out quartering upstream and let it swing like I would a wet fly if I had been fly fishing. As it came around and came up to the surface at the end of the swing, a 38" bass hammered it! I was so tickled, I retired the plug. I think it will go back in the water next spring :-)

Nice needle. Diggin the colors, looks very eely:) I dont have any salty needles. Hows that guy weighted?

Nice needle. Make more, lots more..:hihi:

Weighting of Salty's Needle....
Hmmmm. This is awkward FlukinUki.... I can't answer your question on how Salty weights his needles. I hope you'll understand. I'm sure he's worked long and hard to get them just so, and he makes his living selling these guys. To tell you what I've learned about how he sets his plugs up by working on his blown out pieces would do him a great disservice and violate his trust in me....
Again, Hope you understand :-) |
:kewl: story. Always good to hear about wood being recycled like that. Nice paint too :)

OK, let me try to explain my question...I wasn't trying to gain inside information as I realize Salty makes a living from his plugs. What I was trying to ask was is it a floating needle or a sinking needle and what the overall weight is, NOT how much lead is placed where. After re-reading your post, I see you said "As it came around and came up to the surface at the end of the swing", which answered my question. I took a look at what I had posted and can understand how some would think I was trying to "steal" (for lack of a better word) Salty's design, this was not my intention. I should have read your post more carefully, hope there aren't any ruffled feathers. If I did offend anyone, I apologise.

Ruffled feathers? Here? NOOOOOOOO...WAAAAAAAY!:fishslap:

Got no feathers to ruffle, even if I wanted to. :-) Salty's needle is a sinker. In calm water, you can contol the depth by the rate of retrieve. In heavy current, they tend to come up toward the surface wit a little wiggle to them.....
