Here's a few from my first batch of the winter. These took forever. I'm not sure what to call them. They are not really hand carved, they were turned on the lathe. But before they went on the lathe I ran the stock thru the table saw and beveled the sides then sanded em over so both sides are kind of curved. Maybe you'll see it in the pics.

in hindsight I should have done the sides by hand after they were turned, as it made it really tough to cut the lip slots as the sides were rounded. My original prototype used a danny 1 lip which would have been a lot easier but it seemed like these were better suited to the lexan. Thanks to the guys who gave me advice on the lexan and the airbrush (I went with the iwata eclipse bcs), I'm really happy with the way these turned out.

These are 5 1/2 " and right around 2 oz.

Those are really nice. Let us know how they swim. Any belly weight in them?

Well the prototype swims great. In fast current (which is where I will fish these) it stays right up on top and you can make it dig down 6-12". It took like 8-10 tries to get it just right and probably another 6-8 tries on the lip before I got it to do just what I wanted. I love the shape and profile, I just hope these swim as nice as the proto.

Steelhead, because of the shape if it were not weighted it would roll sideways on you. You need weight on the bottom to act like a keel.

The lexan is really fun to play with, it cuts easy on the bandsaw and you can clean it up on the sander. You can make the lips any size and shape. But thats good and bad, as it gives you another variable to try and deal with...

Moneywise it will probably work out a LOT cheaper than buying metal lips. I bought a 1ft square piece for something like 5$ at HD, and I bet I've cut 25+ lips out of it and I've only used about a 1/4 to 1/3'rd of the sheet.

And the thumb is getting better and I did it with a simple hand chisel, not one of those saw horror stories you alway hear about.
