I need........

so much more in the way of tools and equipment. I have been working on my "entry" into the annual fray known as "Plugfest 06'".
I am totally frustrated. The little number I am working on is something I made in the 80's with a dowel, a rasp and palm sander. Now in my advanced age I find I have little or no patience for the rasp etc. Last night I turned the perfect body for the plug but having no drill press on which to attach a sanding drum, or band saw to cut angles doing it by hand with the rasp I freaked and ruined the whole thing.

Arghhhhh!!!!! I gotta talk the little woman into letting me make a rip to Home Depot with several hundred bucks. ( Yeah like that's gonna happen).

Sorry just had to vent. :realmad:

Go to Lowes and get the cheap Delta Shop master tools. If you don't need them to earn a living they are plenty good to start out with in plug building.

I totally agree, I went to lowes and picked up the Delta bandsaw, and the combination belt/disk bench top sander, both around $80 +/-

I did get lucky on my drill press though, walking thru an old warehouse I spotted an old Sears Craftsman drill press near perfect shape, asked the jamaican guy to plug it in, quiet as could be. All cast iron, wieghs about 70lbs without a stand - $15 :laughs:

Steve you know where I am every nite. Tools galore. If you need a little help until you get the tools I can help you out with a few operations. I am right down the street. Shouldn't take long. Paul

i got a hitachi 15" floor standing drill press for $200 at lowes. if we can't stop globalization we might as well tool up with it. amazing quality for $200. i also picked up a tradesman vs 3/4 hp 4" belt 6" disc sander for $89. go figure

Flap, they don't have any old tools that they're getting rid of in the school system's shop classes? Amazing what you can pick up sometimes for $50. :humpty:

Uhhh......Flap.......... instead of a ball rasp in a hand drill I suggest you try the old indian canoe hollowing trick...........you know the one with the hot rocks and scrapers........it works better.
