A Mess O' Dannies

I cleared some dannies yesterday. I have to finish making the lips yet, but I figured I'd post them anyways.

Here's some little 5" 1 1/2oz ones that started life out destined to be poppers, but the shape looked too swimmeryish to me.

Here's the big suckers. They're 7 1/2" and close in on 4 oz when fully dressed.

And finally, here's the whole family. I hope they all swim as well as their prototypes did, then I won't care as much that my airbrush is mad at me again.

Beautiful Stuff Inkjet, That blueback/whitebellie with the red chin is very similar to my alltime best selling plug. My complitments, your looks better though with the pink line :) keep up the good work.

That is the most perfect, basic color selection of danny's I have seen in a long time. As far as I have always been concerned you have everything you need as far as the colors that actually work time and time again. Good job there.

Steelhead, I make my own lips. All of these use the same lip, I just scale it accordingly. I'll post the template, I got it off of one of these sites(can't remember which one and I don't want to take any credit for something I didn't come up with). Just use a photo editor and resize it to what you need and print it. After you print some different sizes, cut them out and see what fits your plug best. I print them on labels so I can just stick it to the steel and cut.

BTW, thanks for the compliments everybody. I'll post another shot once I get them wired. Got the lips done today, so I'll finish them tomorrow.

Nice! I've cut some goo-goo eye lips ans some danny lips using originals as templates with tin snips and some scrap stainless steel that someone gave to me a while ago. What do you use to cut with and what guage steel have you been using? The hardest part for me was drilling the hole/slot for the thru wire. I couldn't figure out how to make a slot, so I ended up drilling two small holes side by side for the thru wire. So far, it's worked....

Steelhead, I use .030" type 304 and I rough cut it with a floorstanding sheetmetal shear, then use a beltsander(60 grit?) to come up to the lines on the template. After that I bend on the lines and punch the hole with a whitney hand punch(I use a slightly oversized round hole and just tighten the wire into the wood a bit, haven't had a problem with spinning wire yet). I then take off the paper and buff the whole thing. Clean off the compound and I'm done. Kinda makes life easier to buy them, but where's the challenge in that? Plus I have gotten a bunch of small scraps for free from work one time. I haven't had to buy any yet, but I'm getting close to needing to.
