Do Big Plugs equal Big Fish?

Are large bass opportunists, i.e. if they see a baitfish struggling will they eat it and will they go further for a larger one?
Studies have been done on trout feeding off the drift that show the distance they will move is related to the size of the feed, they might just swing up 6" for a lottle nymph but they will go several feet for a grasshopper.
I think as long as it looks alive and edible they will eat it. How big can a plug be?

the saying has always been , big fish , big plugs. I tend to beleive it. back in the early 80's , I used to fish with these huge danny style swimmers at montauk. they got big fish. I think they were so big , smaller bass were afraid of them. :)
