Smokey - a jig question
 

I talked to Saltheart at the MSBA show about laying in a bead of solder on the crimp/wire/hook connection on the eelskin jigs.

Question: What's the proper solder to use ? I'm looking for the tin/lead ration of the solder that's best for the job. Thanks. Jim

I would use 70/30 or 50/50. No need to go to Tin /antimony like you do for drinking water pipes. Use the easier to work with high lead , low melting point solder. Put some Oatey flux paste on there first(home depot)or get flux core solder wire.

If all goes as planned , we will be eliminating that crimp all together this year so you won't have to worry about solder.

saltheart is right a low melting point solder is the best. You don't want to put too much heat to the cable it will become brittle. I don't think you have to do all of the jigs. We only use about six lighter crimps.
